Is it just me or does every one need to blow thee nose a lot when running
I do at the moment! I figured it was a combination of the cold weather and remnants of the cold I had at the start of January. I don't have this problem in the summer.
Yes the medics call it exercise induced rhinitis which is just a fancy way of saying your nose runs when you exercise! [Old joke about nose running and feet smelling comes to mind.]
I found that it improved as I got further into the programme but I still carry a hanky.
Mine starts as soon as I run and happens all year round. I've got used to it now.
Yeah, runny nose from start to finish. Normal.
Mine bothers me no matter the weather - even when hillwalking - but I seldom use a tissue when running.
I dislike having to faff about unzipping a pocket to get a tissue or if not zipped in, the tissue ends up falling out of my pocket somewhere along the route--and it's annoying that I never have it when I need it.
I carry one tissue in the belt bag with my phone, but that is there for other emergencies!
Instead I use what I was told is the Kathmandu tissue* (aka Farmer's hanky aka snot rocket)
You can easily learn to blow your nose using your hand then, if necessary, finish with a wee wipe of your gloves (some folks wrap a buff around their wrist for this purpose) Gross? Not really as these items can go straight into the wash with your running gear.
There's even a video on Runner's World showing how to do it: runnersworld.com/running-ti...
*When you're trekking for a week or more in remote countryside, in areas were campfires are not permitted and where paper takes much longer to biodegrade in the cold heights, you learn to do without tissues or carry out a week's worth of used tissues with you.
I remember being told this was a Scotsman's Hanky and used to think it was disgusting...until I started running and found my nose runs in unison. I am now very proficient at it and can highly recommend the buff-round-the-wrist technique for a quick dab afterwards. However, it's not a pretty sight and I don't think I'll be doing it in public any time soon!
I learned years ago when working outside in all weathers that a hanky is better than a tissue. It's still functional in the rain whereas tissues disintegrate. I always add it to the wash of my gear as well and keep it with my running stuff. Also had the advantage over a tissue that it can't cover your kit with fluff if you forget to take it out of a wash.
Yup all year every run. I am a dab hand at the farmers hanky
My Ron Hill running gloves even have a small towelling panel on the thumb specially for wiping up after........
I tend to sneeze into my elbow if I need to.
And my ski mitts I wore today have a nice soft nose-wiping patch too.
snot rockets all the way! timing is everything! not that pleasant i agree and probably best reserved for outdoor running.
one of hubbies big man hankies tucked into the waistband of my leggings. havent had this problem in the summer so am assuming it is just down to the cold weather. roll on summer...
I've always taken tissues with me but when I was running in the cross country event last week I resorted to using my gloves so I didn't have to stop and dig the tissues out. They always go straight in the wash anyway. I'll stick to tissues when I'm in company though
Funny enough I was just about to post this question myself but I thought I would take a look to see if anyone else was having the same problem.
I started the programme during late summer and had a runny nose then - got to week 9 and graduated but for the last few weeks I haven't been able to run at all for various reasons so am now back in the saddle as it were.
Went to the gym for two runs this week and my nose was running even more than usual - I use a gym at work and when I'm the only one in there I like it to be really cold and I'm assuming this is why my nose was running more than normal.
It is also something I have a problem with when hubby and I go off for one of our hikes with our dogs.
I did read on the internet that sometimes taking an anti-histamine can help - has anyone tried it out?
