bridge to 10k week 2. A bit adrift...

My first comments here! I have been shy at the edges of the blogging dance floor , but have now put my handbag down in the middle and leaped in! Graduated about 4 weeks ago and have been replaying week 9 and adding on a few minutes each week. I started bridge to 10k podcasts last Sunday. I am going to try and build up a longer run each weekend when I have time, whilst doing faster runs around 30 minutes in the week (thats the idea anyway!)

So.. today.., beautiful blue sky, light breeze, birds tweety and a bit bonkers (Saw rooks fighting over tissue paper ) , route planned. The bridge to 10k involves intervals of 10 minute runs/1 minute walk for 40 minutes , strange doing intervals again. The last 10 minutes were a killer as I am so used to my running routes and went a bit free form and ended up a cul-de- sac. BUT did it, have measured on good run guide and did 4.5 miles in 40 minutes. Some concerns over managing this 3 times a week after work when I usually run as took an hour in all.I think the bridge to 10k is 3X a week ideally but so LONG. I do now need to chill out a bit as was so focused on completing the couch to 5k programe and feel I am a wee bit obsessed with distance/times etc. Anyone else who has graduated and feels a bit adrift? I do need to have a plan of sorts as doing a 10k race in September but this seems a long way off. And thank you kind people if you got to this point in ramblings! Off the dance floor now to get a beer!

fantastic stuff! Is the bridge to 10k the natural progression from c25k? Is it still Laura? or something different. I am on week 8 and already looking for where to progress to.

I got a bridge to 10k from face book last year but it does'nt seem to be on there anymore. There are some links to bridge to 10k under "graduates" popular tags here on the right! It is not Laura (boo hoo) and not really full of encouraging comments, just says walk now/run now . It is basically a 6 week programe on intervals again building up to 10k. But so LONG you run increasingly to 60 minutes. I think I am going to make my own music soon ... hard though as miss Laura!

Bonnie68,

I have completed the B210K and yes, I remember that last ten minutes being an absolute pig the first few times. I too need a programme to run to and can't be adrift with no plan. Also agree that it's very easy (still not cured myself) to get obsessed by times, distance and pace. I think it depends on how dedicated you want to be to it...September IS a long way off and you don't want to be doing continuous training towards it at three times 10k/6.2miles a week if you think it is too time consuming (and possibly pick up an overtraining injury on the way, I know, I've done it!).

How about you try doing the C25K week nine twice a week and use the B210k once a week (say on your day off) to build up the distance? This way you very gradually extend your distance, but also once you get nearer to August/September, you could up the training so that you are doing the longer distance twice a week.

This still gives you a "plan" but doesn't take up too much time while maintaining and extending the fitness base you have worked so hard toward.

Thanks for comments everyone, agree with CaroleC, will reign it in a bit, (gosh, who would have thought I could have said THAT before couch to 5k :) and focus on enjoying 30 minutes/longer weekend runs, Have a race for life soon and can do my best with that! Also enjoying reading the graduate plans others have so will continue being inspired by this wonderful site!
