Back in the gym again last night and venturing into unknown territory!
I've set myself a goal of a 5k run (park run or other), so the winter training plan is to get some k's in on the treadmill gradually extending the distance until I can happily do it. Now the treadmill in the gym is user friendly as long as you do what it wants you to do, the pacer programme allows a multitude of ranges but nothing between 3 & 5k and you can't manually edit it, so with this in mind the only option I have to extend the distance is to set it to 5k and then stop when I reach my desired goal.
Bearing in mind that even as a child I was never a quick runner, I set the pacer to 6.9kmh with the goal of increasing the treadmill speed by 0.1kmh every lap so I finish 3k with a pace of 7.5kmh. All well and good, the laps go by reasonably easy and I get to 3k, so lets do another lap or so to get to 3.5k. Done that, lets take a 90 second break, get back to it for a bit more, hit 4k, well that is nearly 5 now. So drop the pace and walk for a couple of minutes, now up it a bit and back to running\walking. Finished the session with a 44.27 5k
Not the fastest time in the world, and ideally I'd like to be sub 40 and approaching 30 minutes, but it's a personal best for me, and the furthest distance I've covered on a run, something I'm quite proud of.
Indoor running definitely isn't as nice as running around the lake, but as I woke up this morning to rain and drizzle, it's the only way I'm going to keep this up, had it been a run day I'd have been turning the alarm off and going back to sleep.
Big respect to all those early morning run in the rainers!

You are a man with a plan. You know what you want to do and what steps (pardon the pun) you need to take to get there.
Treadmills aren't my favourite things but sometimes it's just not an option to run outside. You'll get to 5k before you know it, just take it nice and steady until you feel like running outside again.
A lot of people actually seem to like running in the rain
Goals set here and on target. TM running so different than outdoor and speed and pace varying enormously... but all good.
I only used my TM after injury or in icy conditions, but did eventually feel I was not giving it enough use... outdoors for many of us who have the choice, is the only choice, but for others it is their only choice.
Well done for setting the goals. It is nicer running outside, but I must admit once the clocks go back in October I will put my treadmill back up and use it for one of my weekly runs. I'm very lucky that I have a really good mate to run with, so I'll do a 10K with him once a week too. You will get there quicker than you think with the 5K, and once you do Parkrun you will be addicted .... I did my first Parkrun last October after finishing C25K and tomorrow will be my 40th (only 10 to go till my next t-shirt).
As for running in the rain, I was really lucky for AGES, then one day it absolutely belted down and only about 60-70 people turned up for Parkrun (usually about 200+), but it's actually quite nice running in the rain, it's just the thought of it !!
It's such a good feeling when you achieve your goals and like I say, you will get there quicker than you realise ππ.
