38 n it’s time to get moving

ChrisTheBarbarian profile image

Today I completed WK3R3 and it only gets tougher from here. I’ve recently become seperated with the kids and finally focussing on my physical well being. So far so good, there’s a lake I use to run around near work and on off days I walk around it once in the morning and again at lunchtime. Might be a bit oTT with also doing some weight training at night but who says it has to be hard. Whip on a show on the tele, a seated dumbbell workout while watching surfing n boom 3 weeks later we r seeing some improvements. Our belly is very slowly going but we just got to keep at it!

Welcome to the C25K programme and running forum.

You have made some great decisions, taking control of your life and your physical and of course, ( mental well being.

Not sure which week you are on, or have begun yet, but please, do take a look at this essential post, there is a lot of great advice there!

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Begin slowly and steadily... take each run as it comes... no need to rush and oi you have to miss more than your rest days in between each of your runs, then that is fine.

Your strength and stamina exercises are important too... and you have already begun. Your running body needs plenty of support as well as those legs,

Plenty of help for that here and the Strength and Flex Forum has a whole load of ideas, many of which can be done within your regular day...

You may or may not lose weight with the programme, but you certainly will feel fitter and more toned!

Well done on beginning this, please let us know which run you are on and keep posting your progress here too, there are loads who. like you are just beginning, and there are experienced seasoned runners here who can support you with advice, encouragement and tips!

Good to have you with us.

Unless it is a helpful thought in your particular situation (which it may be), you can safely dump the idea that the programme gets tougher and tougher. It really doesn't... although it does seem to be the law that somewhere in the final weeks, we all have at least one thoroughly disagreeable session - and coming back from that is what makes us sustainable as runners.

I shall dispel those thoughts. Yes your right I think it was wk 6 or 7 the last time I did this that was the toughest. But I'm back and there's no stopping me this time.

I used to look ahead at what runs were coming up while I was doing the Couch to 5K programme and I thought, 'that's never going to happen'. I was surprised when I got myself out the door, that if I started at a slow and steady pace, I could, with the help of Steve Cram!

All the best as you are beginning this journey!

Lol Crams the man! Last time I did this they had Michael Johnson and there was something about having an athlete talking to you that just boosted my energy thank god they got Steve on here. Your right tho! Slow n steady.
