LOOKING FOR THE BELL

Hi Guys,

I have listened to Week 1 and cannot hear the Bell to signal the halfway mark, I just downloaded that Run 1 to my desktop to check. Can someone please help me with this. I have the older version loaded on my old ipod but want to download the new updated version.

Also could someone please tell me how many gigabytes the total podcasts are as I only have 8 Gigs of download space.

Sorry I am not good with all this kind stuff. Would appreciate some help please.

🍏Hi Pearl the new app needs 48MB to run & a phone to enable all the features like the bell & the pre & post run exercises.

Hi Annieapple, I will not be using my phone but I have just purchased a Sony MP3 Player with 8 Gig on it, so should be good to go...what do you reckon.

🍏You can try Pearl but some of the features may not work but the basics should! Do let me know!

Do you think the Bell would work ? Maybe I should download it to my phone first to see....I wasn't keen on doing this as my phone is quite large.

if your phone meets the requirements of the small print you will hear the bell!

If the app works on your Sony apart from the bell you may need to work out from the description you have of when to turn around!

🍏🤣Between us we will get there!

OK, I don't think it will work on the Sony as its only an MP3 Player no data on it I am guessing.

The C25K app won't work on an mp3 player because it doesn't have the correct operating system. Conversely, a smartphone can play mp3s.

There's no bell on the podcasts, only on the app. And you're right, the app won't work on an MP3 player, you need a mobile with a suitable operating system.

Afaik podcasts are still the original ones and haven't been updated, because of the choice to move to an app. The latter is only available to UK-based users, whereas the podcasts are available outside the UK.

Just so I’ve understood, are you planning on using an MP3 player with podcasts or a smartphone with the latest version of the app? That’s the key question here.

If you’ve using the podcasts, there’s no bell. It shouldn’t be too tricky to get around…I run with a variety of podcasts with no bell and just look at what time I’m leaving and work out what time halfway will be. Usually from the commentary, you’ll get lots of clues that you’re on the home straight and should be running towards home if you’ve forgotten to turn around. What’s the worst that can happen? Sometimes an extra long cool down walk is really nice!

Good luck with whatever you decide to use!

As far as I can see, each of the 13 Podcasts does not exceed 40MB so the maximum size for all will be less that 520MB. A GB is 1000 MB so all 13 podcasts should only take to to just over 0.5 GB so you iPlayer will have plenty of room.

As far as the bell goes, I am not convinced it sounds at the right time on the app anyway. For week 1 I would have expected it to sound half way through the 4th 90 second walk section. On my phone, it rang near the end of that walk. I was not using it as a turn-around indicator so it did not matter to me. I prefer to run a loop rather than run there and back but I suppose I may think differently if I did not have a suitable loop to run. Good luck with your running.

if you’re running a there and back route you could walk the route a few times to get an idea.

I’m not a fast runner…my pace averages around 11 minutes per km or 18-19 minutes per mile. I’ve just completed C25k for the 3rd time, and my favoured route is a 2 mile loop. I can fit in the runs and the warm up/cool down walks within that 2 miles, apart from the last 1 or 2 weeks…in the early weeks you just have a longer cool down walk.

Your other option is to buy a running belt/bag or similar to carry your phone in!

Hi!

Regarding the bell, are you using the C25K app or podcast? I used the podcast for 6 months which has no bell but then my son advised me to start using app as I wanted to listed to my favourite music and have Steve Cram’s voice encouraging me along the way.

Just trying to help! 😘
