Hi all looking for a bit of advise. I only started running again quite recently after stopping for about 35years, now after every third or fourth run my right calf starts hurting and i have to take several days off. After a day or two it feels fine again I start running again and the cycle begins again. Don't know what I'm doing that's causing this. Any advise would be welcome.
🍏🤗 Sorry to hear that! Please do not run with pain. You need to rest it completely, ice Compress & elevate it! (RICE) Do not run as you risk further damage to the muscle. Best to seek advice from a physio or your GP if the pain continues or gets worse!
While you are resting Google & take a look at this article which I read recently and found very helpful. Good advice about warming up, S&F exercises which you can also find on our Strength & Flex Forum too.
Sports physio job I think. Probably not a big deal. Maybe just a bit of slackening off needed. Physio should undo the knotty bits you can probably feel in your calf, and then give you some stretches. I use a 10 cm massage ball on my calves, particularly the outsides, so I don’t get that tightness very often.
