Here I am , about to close the door on the Corner until September...
Grab a cushion, choose a snack and sit right down... Fresh pastries, some great smoothies and of course, croissants and coffee.
I apologise for being noticeable by my absence these last few days... but Mr OF had a heart attack last week and well, my feet have not touched since ! He is physically, very, very well... Wednesday heart attack...Thursday evening , cardiac procedure and Friday afternoon... home! Mentally, he and we, the family, are pretty exhausted and so are resting now and catching our breath.
But, I have been popping in and out of the forum and watching all your running adventures... and wow!
New graduates, returning runners, repeaters and everything in between ! You are all doing wonderfully!
I am not running at the moment but the number of steps over the last few weeks, up and down stairs and along long, long hospital corridors... well, I feel I am getting plenty of core strength and stamina work in!
Life is going to be a little different for a while...but, using the words of a last Catch up Corner. we have to use the three A's..
When the situation changes, when something throws us off track, we simply have to try, to take some gentle deep breaths, let the shoulders drop, and...
Acknowledge, Accept and Adapt .
So... your turn now, catch your breath, and share, please, with us what has been happening to you over these last few days.
Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Hi Oldfloss - so sorry to hear about Mr OF heart attack - what a shock for you all.
Just to say that I have now had my op and recovered and have begun the Cto5K once again :), glad to be back on the fluffy cushion in cosy corner with my coffee and croissant and hopefully will be well on the way back to fitness by the time we are all back in September. Take it easy, looking after yourself is important when you are looking after someone else. xx
Hello and welcome... Yes, those three words, easy to say but not always easy to do.. Changes of any kind and especially when it concerns those we love are perhaps the most challenging of all.
Sending love to you OF, what a shock for you all. Get well wishes to MOF- glad to hear he is on the mend after all appropriate cares.
I love your mindset- very strong , but please make sure you pencil in some time for you- when you feel able, being head nurse is a stressful position ❤️.
Hesty ( 🐾) and I attempt R3 week five later - after a week filled with thing’s determined to get in the way of us getting out the door . ( maybe some of it in my head with the longer runs).
Or I may actually try to run with out him today. The extended period of no sniffs might tip him over the edge - we shall see - his attention span is improving but he’s still a cocker and the sniffs are life !! The Daughter has suggested taking him for a walk and a pup cup 🍦so he may have a better offer !
My fluffy friend ( whilst I am sure he would consider it a success) went for the Sunday afternoon experience with the daughter - and a pup cup. Doggy ice cream! Xx
Hi OF I’ve just popped my head round the door to wish your husband a speedy recovery. It does sound like he is doing well and that is really great news. I hope you manage to find some time to rest up yourself too as that sounds like such a stressful time. I love the three As and will put them into action at the next opportunity.
Good to see you here... yes, get those three As into your routine.... I have had to use them a lot lately! We shall move on slowly and steadily and we shall get back on track! x
Thank you so much.... good to see you here too. Such good news that your running is going so well and that the summer is giving you the opportunity to get out there !
Yes... the year is moving on a pace and these sunny days are to be enjoyed ... x
🍏what a wonderfully welcoming photo!!! Now I am giving up my cushion and putting you on it & serving you some coffee & croissants!! We are holding you and Mr OF in our hearts & prayers. The outdoor runs will wait while you do plenty of indoor running about.. hopefully a bit of relaxing you time scheduled in somewhere.
We love your mantras & the 3 A’s are for me at the moment in more ways than one. Take care lovely Floss & we will all take care of each other here!
The coffee and the croissants were most welcome this morning, thank you... Good to just sit on this cushion here and just chill for a while too!
Mr OF is just having a little nap too... the last three days have finally caught up with him, and all of us I think...He had his daily walk this morning... and felt just great, as the consultant said he would...
I think I shall be doing a few walks when I get chance to get out there again!
Thank you so much for the kind words... taking care of each other... perfect x
The runs will come when they’re ready. They will peacefully and patiently wait. The main thing now is to look after everything that’s important-that’s is you and your family. We are all here to support you as you process what’s happened and adapt to all the changes. Unlimited virtual hugs available (and snacks too!).
Hello... glad you are taking a breather... you have been covering so much work! Plus getting some walks and runs in too! Yes... cushions, snacks and very important hugs...
I think those three things will keep me going... Thank you x
Thanks for such a lovely reply! The walks and runs are still going well. I had a bit of a panic that I was behind on my plan for September’s Great North Run but I realised I’ve accidentally skipped a week ahead in my diary so I’m just where I want to be. With a week where running will be super tricky coming up, I might need to have a good think about how to fit the long runs in. I’ll definitely need to acknowledge what I can actually manage and not beat myself up or worry about it-accepting and adapting will be the key. Such a timely reminder-really appreciated. It’s amazing how the skills and knowledge we get from running help us in so many areas of life.
Really hoping it’s a positive week for Team Oldfloss ❤️
You know we are all rooting for you, so grab a cushion here in the corner and have some me time with your coffee and croissant and look after head nurse as well
I am still sitting in the corner... we did pop out for a short while this morning and Mr OF got his 10 minute walk in ! I still find it hard to believe that Wednesday he had the HA and Friday, came home a new man!
Sorry to read this Oldfloss, but glad your OH is doing well after prompt treatment.
August looks to be a slow and careful convalescing month for a few of us. I hope you will find support and some time to maintain your own fitness, both physical and emotional. Sending hugs 🤗🤗
Thank you so much... I know you will be eager to be getting out asap too, but until then, we can sit here and pop in and out of the forum seeing what folk are up to...
I’ve come to visit and be with friends for a bit. Sorry to hear about your husbands heart attack Oldfloss, wishing him a speedy recovery and he’s in good hands with you. Make sure you take care of yourself too! Hugs for you both! 💜🥰💜
I’ve been having a bowel flare up since Wednesday and not been able to run at all…sad face! Said goodbye to my wee cat on Tuesday night, there was nothing vets could do so he had to cross the rainbow bridge. Was a very very sad moment for me and I hit the junk/comfort food hard which resulted in bowel flare up, totally my own fault 🙈 and also stress too 🤷♀️ been feeling quite down but I’ll be fixing that with a run in morning….
Acknowledge. Accept. Adapt. 👍
Anyhoo!! I’ve been resting up and making sure my bowels are settled and better, so I’ll be back to running tomorrow morning. It will be my first consolidation run after graduating and I’m just going to run free for 30mins and see how that feels. I’ve missed the running so much and also being out in the early morning with no one but nature!
🍏 The loss of your beloved Bose and the grief have been so hard on you my lovely friend… you will find comfort again in your early morning run … I wish I could be there beside you tomorrow but I will run here..probably not quite as early as you.. but we will compare notes 🎶 We will both take it slowly & allow that fresh air to do it’s calming & refreshing… A Sunday hug & I am off to drink a glasses of water in preparation for tomorrow! 🐌💜🤗🍏
🍏Great that you managed your consolidation run today and without technology!! I should have done the same as my run was very frustrating due to hiccups with my Bluetooth device.. had some funny looks from strangers as my music & NTC coach were blaring out loud🤣
Oh goodness... I am so sorry... that little cat is free from pain now Always a special part of your life. I hope you get that run in tomorrow... I called my first runs after Graduation... runs for pure joy.... just because I could !
I am glad you are feeling a bit more chopper now. but take it easy, rest here a while and have a breather.
On the running return front….W7 completed scampering around Claygate after visiting Mr E’s 99 year old uncle. Back to the cool north (phew!😂) ready for W8.
Hi OF late to the party but I shall sit for a while. First of all I’m sending both Mr OF and yourself massive virtual hugs 🫂 along with very best wishes to you all for a peaceful ,relaxing rest of summer.
I love the three “A”s mantra
Take care OF and keep popping in from time to time but in the meantime rest The runs will wait for you quietly and patiently for when the time is right for you.
Thanks you.... it has been a heck of a few days!!! Glad you are here and there is always a cushion here for you!
I do know, form past experience that those runs do wait.. I think a few walks are in the offing too, joining Mr OF on his gentle build back exercises ! Good to know that the forums friends are being looked after ... xxx
Thanks OF 🥰 Walks are good too sometimes even better than running. The walks I think give you time to absorb your surroundings and help your mind set aswell 👍🥰xx
I feel strange today as its the first Sunday I haven't run for a while (could be first time this year or more) because I have a 10k event tomorrow evening after work.
I am meant to be doing cross training and cant be asked as it's not the best outside. So I've basically been hiding in here most of the day and I'm going to continue hiding here for another while until I have to go up into the attic and clear a bit of space.
Oh gosh..we'll here you are, and with a clear loft!!!Best of luck with your 10K...grab a snack here before work and pop back to let us know how it's gone!
Oh Floss - sending all my positive thoughts to you both. I remember when my own husband had to have medical treatment, he was a very tetchy patient because he is normally so fit and healthy. Trying times!
I shall plonk myself in a corner with a coffee, feeling very virtuous today because I have quietly started yet again, and I am at the end of week2. My legs feel very heavy for the first run then by the end I actually feel like I could keep going. I don't of course, that would be foolish!
So sorry to hear about Mr OFs heart attack, and really pleased to hear that he is on the mend. Wishing him a very speedy recovery. I always find your writhing so reassuring, such kind words for everyone. And love the 3 As. Sending virtual hugs to you both for a peaceful summer together 💕
Hi Oldfloss, so sorry to hear about Mr OF and glad to hear he's well on the road to recovery. I too have only really been a stalker here for awhile now but nice to read the posts and be part of the VRB community. Still running but family, life and golf, both playing and organising is taking up so much time. 😁
Oh I just couldn't resist going through that lovely gate and settling on a cushion for a while.I'm so sorry to hear about Mr OF but relieved he's feeling much better now. Best wishes to you both x
My GNR training is both exciting and terrifying lol. I know I can do it but boy do I give myself an argument not to go out on the long runs! 🙈 Anyway, more or less on track so just need to give my head a shake. 13k tomorrow (should have been on Sunday but found every excuse not to do it 🥺 ridiculous)
Dear Oldfloss, I saw the words, coffee, cushion and croissants and had to pop in to say hello.I hope Mr OF recovers well and you have the opportunity for a breather, in our beautiful, if somewhat damp, countryside.
I am thankful for being able to run, keep fit, enjoy the outdoors and the new friends I have made through running.
Nature, running and friendship... how perfect is that ! A huge well done to you! I am so glad you popped in to say hello and thank you so much for the good wishes... I shall be back to running at some point!
All hugs gratefully received... they are keeping me going. x
what a few days for you and your family! I’m so glad to hear that mr of is doing so well. Nothing matters more than our health and the health of those we love. I can’t tell you how impressed and moved I am by your three As mantra. So much wisdom distilled there. Xx
Whirlwind... Garden.. heart attack...in and out in three days! Talk about science fiction! He is making great progress and yes, we are both taking those three As a day at a time.... learning to move from a slightly new starting line !
Hi Floss I’ve pulled up a chair to say hi to you and Mr Of, an to say how amazing you both are to keep moving through a storm ,steadily in tune with the here and now . I’ve just got back from week 5 r2 I’ve done it twice this week as I am scared of week 5 r 3 . I know it’s all psychological so I intend to give myself a good talking too , I’ve not felt this anxious prior to a milestone run before running for 20 mins . Wednesday will be the day . All the very best Floss and Mr OF we’ve got this 😊
Thank you so much.. the positivity is what is needed! You are going to be absolutely fine... the mind is a clever thing and can work for you as well as against... KNOW you can do it...and you really are halfway there xxx
I was sorry to hear about MOF but hope that he’s starting to feel a little better now. More wise words from you OF, which I will hopefully take heed of! And last, but definitely not least, please remember to look after yourself as well in the coming weeks!
Oh no so sorry to hear Floss, I hope your husband makes a full and speedy recovery. What a shock! Take some time for yourself too, as it is exhausting.
I have been running mostly every other day throughout July and I have been doing a bit of upper body toning too with some free weight, stretching- pilates type exercises-hopefully my knees will thank me lol. Take care x
He is well on the way...just getting used to an increased medication routine! We are taking it gently, one day at a time...
Huge well done you on the runs and your other exercise too, that is going to stand you in very good stead! Every bit of that running body will thank you for it !
Best wishes to you and Mr OF. Do take things easy for a bit, I find the three As sometimes take more out of you once the adrenalin has come down.Thank-you for all your help and encouragement on this forum.
Wishing a speedy recovery to Mr OF, and hope you are able to relax after the shock of it all. I’m sure you must be surviving on adrenaline. Rest up and look after yourself. As my dad used to say ‘you need to put on your own oxygen mask before you can help others’ .
sending love and get well wishes to you all …..the 3 A’s are just the ticket, in many aspects of life…
I am taking some time off this week as it’s my birthday week so I’m spending some quality time with my family…especially my youngest…we are going to the pictures, just me and him, this afternoon…I am soooo looking forward to it & so happy to be spending some time together with him..so I am feeling a little bit of contentment..he is much better not being at school..he is happier at home…and my running is picking up nicely too..new shoes on the way for my birthday from hubby xxx
This sounds like a plan and it is good to see you here having a rest too ! You are so, so busy. Tine with family is all important and especially with your smallest one right now x
Running is happening and that too, will give you some stress relief... Pop in any time x
Really sorry to hear about MrOld Floss - glad he's home and in recovery. That must have been a shocker, to say the least. Hope you find time to rest and regroup after all of this - the runs are always out there.... Big, big hugs xxx
Thank you... yes unexpected and alarming but wow what a turnover time! The runs will, indeed, wait and there are some great walks to be had as he builds back up again...
You never know what life is going to throw at you. I'm glad Mr OF is making a good recovery and of course you need to concentrate on your family just now. But we will all miss your words of wisdom and encouragement. Take all the time you need.
Thank you so much.... I shall be popping in and out and I will be rambling about things even whilst I am not running... we are taking things just slowly right now... I think all of us a re still reeling a bit !
Oh my! How did I miss this yesterday? Bestest wishes to Mr OF. To have turned around so quickly must have meant that the procedure must have been minimally invasive. (Unlikely to have been a quad CABG.) Of course, in present medical climate they want in-patients to linger for as least time as possible to minimise infection and free up beds.
The weather and other factors have meant I haven't been doing as much mileage as I'd like. And then when I plan a long run (yesterday) it only goes and rains heavily when I'm just over half way through it. I got cold whilst waiting for the rain to ease and had to throw in the towel and call to be picked up.
One BIG stent in a major artery... In Wednesday...monitored over night... and procedure , took an hour, late Thursday... home Friday afternoon with a whole stack of new pills.
This weather is playing havoc with a few folks' runs and getting that wet can be singularly unpleasant... well done for getting out there..
Thanks for popping in... it is good to see you, and thanks for the good wishes x
Well that was a surprise and not of the good kind. Sorry to hear that news but the treatment sounds exemplary and return home so soon after too is good to hear.
If he is offered a rehab programme it sounds as if they are really worthwhile. You probably know that already.
Sending you and MrOF loads of very best wishes for a steady and smooth recovery xx
They do move them out as it is a job done situation !
The consultant said.. rest for a couple of days, then start walking a bit each day... rest the arm until the bruise goes and then get on with life as normal! He has got a follow up and an ECHO check too... all brilliantly organised and already in hand !
Thank you so, so much... yes... those surprises ... we don't need !
