6 miles target to much?

Hello,! I'm hoping to accompany my partner for a 6 mile stretch of his 100mile run in early May He's running through the night, so various people are doing bits of the night with him, to make sure he's ok.I am a beginner runner, and haven't exercised vigorously in many years. I've just started c25k to prepare.

My target pace, to keep aside him, is quite gentle. He does a mile in 13 minutes average (doing a routine of 20minutes jog and 4 mins walk).

I've got 7 weeks until the event. Is this achievable or will I cause an injury trying to reach 6 miles in only 7weeks training?!

If it's not utter madness, i would appreciate your advice on how to how about it?

Week 1 of c25k was 2miles and took 25mins. So that's about the right pace. A glimmer of hope 😁.

On race day, would I best do a week1 routine for 6 miles (i.e. run 1min, walk 1.5 mins)? Or do you think its achievable to do a 20min x 3 with quite limited training?

Thank you,

E

Hi    Fabijogs , it's great that you want to support your partner on his run.

However, from the information you've given, I'm not sure that running with him is the best option for you.

If it's an organised race, not a personal challenge, I'm assuming you've checked the rules and it's OK for him to be accompanied. Not all races, especially night-time ultras, allow this. Or if they do, there may well be specific conditions about who can provide support, where and how.

Is it an on-road event or on trails? If it's on trails, then you need to be used to running in the dark on varying off-road surfaces and gradients, and to have practised both these aspects. If it's on roads, might that give you a different option such as accompanying your partner on a bike? Or perhaps driving between certain points and running for a much shorter distance than six miles? For example, you could maybe do whatever run C25K has scheduled for you at that point in the programme (but no more.)

I'm not saying you definitely wouldn't be able to, but getting to six miles in seven weeks from a basis of no running experience and limited fitness is a very big ask. So please be sure that if you do decide to accompany your partner you're not unintentionally adding extra stress or complications to his preparations and race experience, nor potentially burdening the organisers.

Don't give up on C25K though - that could be the route to other future runs with your partner!

Hello, and great you are starting c25k.However, getting to 6 miles (9.6k) from a non runner in that time would certainly be putting you at risk of injury .

We would never advise anyone taking shortcuts through the program, and when completed we would also advise consolidating on the 30 minutes runs for several weeks before pushing on with pace or distance .

I personally feel this would be quite a risk
