Meniscus strain

I have a meniscus strain but it it is taking long fo me to recover initial injury from week 3 in November. I have been to physio and received exercises to do at home. However, when I exercise the injury seems to be getting worse e.g. pain and stiffness. Has anyone had this issue? How did you recover and how long did it take? I’m frustrated as I love to run

Hello!

Well...because we are not medical expert here, we can't give you any medical advice,, but there will probably be folk who have had similar problems. But, they may only be similar. WE all respond differently to both injury and treatment.

The, 'normal' time for a strained meniscus to heal, ( if it is very mild), is about two to three weeks... but a severe strain or tear can take much longer. How was your strain diagnosed and did you have scan on the knee to see if it was a tear or not?

Have you been running since the injury? That could exacerbating any problem that is not responding to your treatment.

At this stage, the very best advice we would offer, is to go back to your consultant or your Sports Physio and to tell them exactly what is going on, and then at least you will know how to move forward.

Please do keep us posted.

Thank you I know we are all different and we can’t give specific advice - I just wanted to check if anyone had experienced anything similar to get a guide timeline on recovery. It’s been a while and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. I think the next step is a scan.

I realise that... and hoped some folk may have responded. I have a slight meniscus tear as do most folk over 50.. . but it has never caused any problems.

Your plan to see your GP to get referred for a scan is a good one.
