Just finished week 7

I've switched to jogging outside so and find that when I start to jog the first 10 mins kills me, the I get rolling and could go longer than needed

Its like there's a inertia barrier to get past anyone else have this ?

Hi  Ardenk - the toxic 10!  Instructor57 has that covered in his reply. It’s definitely a thing, and not just you. Best of luck with your next run 😁.

As Instructor57 has explained, it's absolutely normal Ardenk ! You can always slow down more if necessary - better to start off like that and save energy for the later part of your run, than to push too hard early on and end up struggling.

i have that still and I graduated 10 weeks ago. For example, I did a 50min run the other day, and I really struggled the first third of that run. By the end, I felt like I could continue running forever (but stopped at 50mins as that's the plan I'm following)

If you start off slower than normal that ‘toxic ten’ wont be as bad. I feel like the ‘Tasmanian devil’ with crazy breathing for the first 10 mins sometimes. 😆

yep, that’s covered it well. I always breathe a sigh of relief when the first 10 minutes has cleared off. Been running nearly 3 years and it’s unusual if the toxic 10 doesn’t decend.

I have been finding the first five minutes a real struggle and initially stopped after five mins for a one minute brisk walk then ran for about 25 mins without too much trouble. A week ago I started cutting out the one minute walk and the following 25 mins didnt seem any harder.Last night I only ran for 20 mins and again the first five were hard. I looked at the recording of my heart rate from my watch and the first five mins show an initial blip, the its slow before picking up at the end. I presume thats the point when my body decided that I was not going to pack up running so needed to do something about it.

The more effective your warm-up, the less 'toxic' your first 10 mins will feel.
