We're none of us medical experts here. Some will have experiences which they can share, but you're really best consulting a qualified medical professional (eg. GP or physio) about this.

Do please give and get a diagnosis from your GP or physio .Once you get a diagnosis you will then get the appropriate advice you need to move forward.:)

How long have you been running, and when did the pain begin?

Welcome to the forum, but I suspect that you did not intend to post on a forum for new runners.

If you click the nine white dots, My Hub icon at the top of the page, you can browse other communities which may be more appropriate to your query.

Hi lmoore, yes I have had this condition and whilst I'm not a medic, am happy to tell you and any other C25k runner of my experience, so there can be an awareness of this problem in our running world! iIt was more annoying than painful in my case, and started as a twinge at the base of the toes. It is a thickening of the nerve caused by pressure, according to my Podiatrist. In my case the pressure was a boot which was slightly tight on one foot, but I had continued to wear to 'break in'.It can be treated as I had an inner sole made to fit my shoes which had a raised bump in it, the idea being the area in question rests on the bump and takes the pressure away, giving the neuroma a chance to shrink. It was successful for me and I hardly know it's there now. I was also advised to wear nothing on my feet at home, which is normal for me anyway.

So do seek help, and a Podiatrist who is used to treating runners' feet if you can as they will fully understand your plight and advise accordingly.

Worse case scenario, there are ops that a surgeon will carry out, but hopefully you will not need to go that route. It is, however, far better not to ignore it, the earlier it's treated, the better.

Good luck with it.

I never got a diagnosis because my GP wasn't that bothered. I think I had something similar, horrible shooting pains from between my toes. I found that plenty of toe wiggle space in my shoes was the solution.
