Hi, newbie here!

I’m thinking about trying this out to see if it can help with my weight loss journey, has anyone else managed to do this please?

Thanks 😊

Hi Julez👋 there are no weight loss promises with the programme but I've read of a lot of people on here having lost weight. Personally, I started out with a few extra unwanted pounds and jiggly belly and legs. I noticed a change in my legs first, they are super toned now, and I've definitely lost inches around my waist, although I didn't actually use a tape measure, I fit into my skinnier skinny jeans and tighter trousers now😁. Weighing scales wise, I've put on a few pounds but it's muscle not fat and my body is more toned so it doesn't matter to me now what the scales say. You won't regret starting the programme!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your intent........you are going to do it, aren't you.

Learning to run will tone you up and make you lose inches (probably) and make you fitter, but without addressing diet as well you are, to be frank, very unlikely to lose any considerable weight doing C25k..............but it is a great way to start.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Often muscle replaces fat first. Muscle is more dense than fat, so you might weigh the same but be much more trim.

A half hour run only consumes a few hundred calories, about the same as a few digestive biscuits.

I lost about 8kg in the first six months, mostly belly fat (where blokes usually gain weight). I did also cut out a lot of snacking on biscuits at the same time. I lost a couple more kilos once I reached the level of running an hour or more.

But, as I'm finding from having to reduce the amount of running due to potential injury, unless you keep up a particular level of activity, the weight starts creeping back.

Hi julez23 imvdoing the couch25k alongside the nhs 12 week weight program. I'd say it's a bit of both that's bringing my weight down the running side is the confidence boost I need to keep counting calories xx

When I did this back in 2018 (alongside healthy eating) I lost 3 stone after a while of running 5k 2-3 times a week. But the amazing thing was how I changed shape completely (from apple to slimish hour glass) and just looked more athletic (which I’m not 😂). Keep a phone diary, best thing I did and am doing it again for motivation!

Hi there,

I have just completed my 11th week (2 weeks consolidation runs) and I'm happy to report i have gone from 16 stone to 14 stone 7 lbs.

As people have mentioned it is probably a combination of both exercise and diet.

I still eat all the things I enjoy but have cut out snacking and take aways. I make my own curries now which are simple to do and very tasty.

So, coming up to 12 weeks and I'm one and a half stone lighter, I need a new wardrobe and I feel fitter now than I have ever done.

Its a great program.
