W7R1 but had calf pain

Hi, I completed my W6R3 25mins on Thursday so was due to do the same again for W7R1 on Sun and then R2 today.

The trouble is that on my last run I hurt my left calf - pain when half way round and (had a bit of a limp later that day).

Took it easy and despite really wanting to carry on c25k made myself rest and not run on Sun (my usual day). I read and took heed of recommendation to rest up even if feels like only a minor pulled calf muscle.

Hoped to be good for today but twinged it again yesterday (uneven ground outside our house) so erred on the side of caution with a rest today

I am really missing the c25k - the first time In my life I have enjoyed and felt the mental and physical benefits of exercise. (I’m 43 and overweight and never thought I’d want to run let alone enjoy challenging myself and reaping the benefits!).

My wife and I had been doing this together and I miss our early morning runs together. She plans to repeat W7.

I always do stretches after runs and my route is not steep.

Not really expecting any particular words of medical advice because I know it is all individual specific and not possible or wise to make any generalisations or text forum doctoring.

But thought I’d post simply to share my thoughts.

For now I’m Seeing how I feel on the ache / pain front and doing some calf strengthening and hoping Thurs I’ll be back out for an early morning run.

Keep on keeping on everybody and stay safe. Best wishes

M

Oh gosh, really sorry to hear that you’ve had calf issues! I wish you a speedy recovery, but make sure you take adequate time to recover any injury! The programme will still be there when you’re ready 😊

I'm at about the same stage. It's weary at this stage but it's because I'm unfit. I'm hoping the 25 minutes will feel easier. It's great to get to this stage. If you need an extra day to rest then do it? I've taken at times a two day break and am still going. Well done and hopefully it'll ease.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Rest and patience will pay off.

You might do some static strengthening exercises while you can't run, which will benefit you in the long term.

Take care.
