I listen to different running playlists on Spotify I find them really upbeat and nice and easy to run to
Up until my last run, I listened to music from Podrunner on 160 bpm. But I got kinda bored of those songs and I now have put the live music of Armin Van Buuren when he played on Tomorrowland for 5 different years on my phone for listening. I saw him live at Tomorrowland 2019 (only time I was able to get tickets) and I loved it. So I thought, why not put that music on (also put on a couple of Charlotte De Witte). Must say it was good to listen to while running. Made me go back to TML for my run 😀
Slow songs are the way forward, for me anyway. I tend to run with the beat and can find myself pooped out after a couple of KMs when listening to faster tracks, and have to force myself to slow down. Slow and steady is definitely the way forward.
Step On (Happy Mondays), Barbara Streisand (Ody$$y), and Desert Storm (remix Michael Dow) are three tunes on my playlist that keep me going. Also a bit of Queen which I try to sing along to if no one’s around!
I use a large mix depending on the mood of the day. I have made some playlists of favourite music, e.g. tracks from “Les Miserables”, bits of jazz eg Glen Miller & Dave Brubeck, bits of classical eg Beethoven symphony no. 7, 2nd movement,(lots of people know it from the film “the King’s speech”) is perfect for a long slow buildup at the start of a run, quite a lot of tracks from movies. If I feel like a change from music, I listen to podcasts from radio four on BBC Sounds - Desert Island Discs, Tweet of the Day, The Food Program, Woman’s Hour, Gardeners’ Question Time & a selection from the many dramas & adapted books. - All free! Then sometimes I just listen to the wind, birdsong & my own breathing & enjoy zoning out. So much choice. 😄
Hi Susojan ...I have all sorts of playlists on spoyify (you can have a look at them if you want coz they’re public) some of them were made up by a runner on here, she even made one especially for me!! At the moment I’ve been listening to Elton John, I absolutely love ‘Goodbye yellow brick road’ ...also, I like to get my mind going by listening to true crime podcasts 😊
I usually take the opportunity to stick an album on. Most of what I stick on isn’t likely to most people’s taste (recent listens include Therion, Saor and Skindred) but I certainly have a theme.
Something positive with a good rhythm I’ve found best for me. AC/DC, Muse, Rush, Manic Street Preachers, James Brown, KT Tunstall, Dire Straits & De La Soul would be good examples.
I’ve found it best to run to music I know and like. Also have a selection available, I frequently change my mind during the warmup.
I like happy music. - there are some which always give me a lift even if it’s cheesy, and lots that take me a long way back... B52s, Olly Murs, Scissor sisters, mambo no 5 and Happy are all favourites on my current playlist.
When I was doing the earlier part of C25K (up to week 7), I would listen to either a music radio station (usually Ireland's RTÉ Lyric FM) or my personal internet jukebox station. I found that the app's spoken instructions could get lost amongst any speech content.
Since graduating, I've been mostly listening to podcasts. No Such Thing As A Fish (the QI elves), Radio 3's The Listening Service, various Radio 4 stuff including The Infinite Monkey Cage (Science), The Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry (Science), You're Dead to Me (History), Evil Genius (History), More or Less (Statistics) and their topical comedy stuff including The News Quiz, The Now Show, The Skewer, etc.
I've moved away from music to podcasts, because I was aware that, even though I have several playlists, I had became so familiar with them that I used them to mark progress on runs by which track was playing - stats is something I'm trying to step away from for now.My choice of podcasts is a bit narrow and based on my love of the Beatles - a simple keyword search means I'm spoiled for choice on this topic, although "quality" is not a watchword with all of them 😉.
I either listen to an album - usually Ariana Grande which might not be to your taste. I also listen to a lot of podcasts, right now I'm listening to NADDPOD which is a D&D podcast.
