Running every day

Mood has really dipped during this third lockdown. The only excercise I do is running, albeit not often enough due to having a toddler. I was thinking of getting up earlier each morning to head out for a run, not to necessarily run a 5k each time but maybe ten minutes on my days off. I’m just wondering if this would be ok or would it be too much? 💪🏻

I would recommend that you read this article about running on consecutive days runnersworld.com/runners-st... and then decide whether it is sensible for you to do it.

Make sure you never follow a hard run with a hard run and it is wise to increase your training load using the 10% rule.

In general terms it is not considered advisable for new runners to run on consecutive days until they have a minimum of six months regular running on their legs and they do plenty of aerobic strengthening on rest days..........it doesn't sound as if you match those criteria, so do take care as any increase in running is also an increase in injury risk.

Issywhizz, I can’t speak for whether it’s a good idea to do a short run everyday but rest assured you are not alone in finding this lockdown harder. I was thinking only this morning that I feel inexplicably low and unmotivated about anything and then I realised that it’s really not inexplicable at all. January is always a hard month because the weather is generally colder and winter really gets a grip. The nights are long and the days are short. We can’t see the people that we love and we can’t do anything especially spontaneous. On a personal note I can’t see my mum in her nursing home and she’d be the person that I’d speak to about feeling low - but I can’t do that because she’d worry.

I’d hazard a guess that almost everyone has seen a dip in their mood so please know that you are not alone and that it will pass. Longer days, the end of lockdown, a summer where we may mix - they are all on the horizon 😊

Thanks JetsNanna. I was just thinking if I release those endorphins early on in the day, then maybe it will set me up for the day ahead. Brighter days are coming, I guess the majority of us are all going through a lull right now. A lot of people are finding this third lockdown tougher than previous ones. Thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated 🙏🏻😊

Let's hope so 🙏🤞

Issywhizz, take those rest days, you'll appreciate them more than if you were running non stop, perhaps though? Have you thought about taking a look at the at the strength and flex forum for non running exercises to keep you active?

That’s great thank you! I didn’t know about this forum, will check it out. Perfect. I was just thinking that maybe on the rest days I might do some skipping.. I bought a skipping rope a while back but haven’t yet used it, so maybe I’ll do that instead
