Really sore quads

Hi all,

Happy new year!! I’m just looking for some advice.

I started this program in the summer but had to stop after 2 weeks as an old reoccurring knee injury came back. I was determined to do the program so in October I had my gait analysis done and bought new running shoes.

The gait analysis showed I was too bouncy, and to lean forward slightly when running which I worked on in the first few weeks when I restarted the program. My style has now definitely changed. I also ran on grass to minimise the impact on my knee.

I’m now on W8R3 and pretty much since W3 I’ve had sore quads when I run. I’m not running on grass anymore as it’s too muddy, so now pavement running. My speed is pretty consistent each run. I guess the best way to describe how they feel is that aching feeling when you have a cold/flu except I have that when I run.

I’m able to run with them feeling like it but it does limit my speed. (I don’t get too out of breath on my runs and I listen to Laura on the app saying ‘if you are not out of breath you can go faster next time’ but my legs totally won’t let me!).

I warm up and cool down properly (using guidance on here) and got a foam roller for Christmas but nothing seems to relieve them. Any ideas? Should I take a week off? Keep going? I’m determined to complete C25K and probably can with my legs like this, but would be nice to find a solution!

Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks for reading!!

I would suggest that you do more in the way of stretching/strengthening of your legs on your rest days and continue to use the foam roller.

How is your hydration?

Thanks IannodaTruffe. I’ll have a look at some exercises.

Hydration wise, it definitely could be better and particularly over the last 2 weeks I’ve drunk more alcohol than usual and have definitely felt it!

I hadn’t considered hydration as part of the issue.

This will reinforce the crucial nature of adequate hydration healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
