So I went out to run two days ago and decided to do a run with no music and just my watch. Planned to run for about 40 mins.
15 mins in and I got a call from someone which I needed to take. I did contemplate ignoring it but thought it would be a good test to see if I could hold a conversation whilst running...well I couldn’t...so I slowed down to a brisk walk and spent the remainder of the call alternating between slow jogging and walking.
The day after I woke up with painful shin splints! I’m so annoyed at myself. Consequently I’ve not run for the last 2 days and I’m still in some pain.
Any advice on what I can do to alleviate the pain and when I might start running again? I’m guessing once I’ve been out of pain for a few days? Any advice gratefully received...Thank you.

Thank you for the advice. Because of Covid the shop couldn’t give me a gait test so I just got a decent pair of Nike’s. They’ve been great and seen me right through C25K with no problems. I’m really careful to stretch after every run too.
