So... I started Strength and Flex to complement Couch to 5k and it left me *hobbling*. I've never been remotely strong or flexible, but then, I've never been remotely a runner, and I guess that, having got to week eight of Couch to 5k with ease, I vaguely assumed Strength and Flex would be the same story. Not so!

Today is a running day, and for the first time, I quit without finishing. Less than half way through, in fact. I think it was a combination of things: my upper legs (why them particularly?) ache from Strength and Flex and then several things came together and seemed to throw me psychologically- I had to take a phone call during the warm up, had to wait for a long time at a pedestrian crossing, and then, to cap it all, my knicker elastic broke! I could have continued, but I lost the will too.

It didn't really affect my mood - that is quite buoyant, even though this is not, if I'm honest, the first thing I've messed up today. But I need you all to push me to not let this setback be the end of my 'career' as a runner.

I’ve got to tell you a story from my student days. My friend was waiting at a train station when she felt a draft. Not unusual on the platform so she didn’t immediately realise her knicker elastic had snapped until she realised her ankles were sort of hobbled. She decided she couldn’t pull her knickers back up in public and that the neatest exit from the situation would be to step gently out of them and walk away. Which she duly did!

Don’t blame you for abandoning this run. Suggest you consider new knickers for the rest of the program? 🩲

Yes, def new knickers! Thank goodness I wasn't wearing a skirt!

Oh my IJM1 I’m very sure knicker elastic giving up the ghost cannot count as quitting...surely it’s a very reasonable argument to just go home, and go again another day with another pair 😬 .....and you cannot possibly give up now, not after all that running on the spot to get to week 6, just how many folks could actually do that? 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻, your determination is strong and as you say you just need a wee push o get back out there. Maybe just take it a bit easier with the S &F, less repetitions maybe until your body gets used to it but keep on going 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🤗

☺️ I loved your title btw, I’ll be looking out for your next instalment ‘Knickerbocker Glory’ this time, ....so many memories of this giant treat when a child at the seaside 🤗
