Winter is coming!!

Hey! This winter will be the first time I will be running in the dark.

What fluorescent running jackets would people recommend?

Also does anyone take a personal alarm? I would be very surprised if anyone would want to attack me when I look like a sweaty mess! 😂 but you never know! Their may be people with a sweat fetish about!

Try to walk where there are bright lights, not a good idea to run in a park where there are no lights, ask in a good sports shop regarding which fluorescent running jackets are best for you.

Hi Feeling_Runderful ...I hope to god I never bump into anyone with a sweat fetish otherwise no-one will ever see me again!!! I don't actually have a fluorescent jacket, its just very bright and has fluorescent strips on the arms and back...and it's only thin because, as you might guess, I cannot bear layers, I don't need them!!! it's lights for me...I have lights on my arm and in my hair...I am like a running disco in winter...I wrap lights that change colour around my ponytail! The street lights are those LED ones round here too so I try and run along the main roads, I wouldn't dare run by the canal or anywhere lonely...better to be safe than sorry. I'm sure you 'll find the right thing for you when you go winter running clothes shopping 😊

Not that I’m a perv or anything, but there’s something about a runners glow 🤣

I have running trousers and tops with reflective panels/details on them, and shoes now too as it happens. A headlight/chest light is good, I’d go with the headlight as it lights up where you want to go rather than the direction you happen to be facing.

One thing that could well be worth looking into is your local running clubs... they will have group runs, and while any actual danger is rare in this country, there is safety in numbers. Most clubs will have a couple of club nights a week with different groups together based on their running paces... mine is very inclusive when it comes to speed.

🤣🤣🤣...you'd love it at my house UnfitNoMore ...the local running club runs passed on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, (pre lockdown) and there's about 30 of them..in winter they all have a head torch and they're reflective from head to toe...I bet they've even got reflective underwear on 'just in case' ...It's like a manhunt

Hi - I wear a running chest light (from Decathalon) when it's dark - so I have a light on the front and a flashing red light on the back!😀 I don't have bright clothing but some of my runwear has reflective strips.

I don't take a personal alarm although I did buy a wrist one a few years ago when I first started running in the dark! (It's still in a drawer somewhere!) I'd say - do whatever makes you feel safest.👍

I live in a fairly "safe" area and do run alone, but the other option is to find a run partner maybe?

Goes without saying, I always take my phone and tell someone where I'm going.

Safe runnning and good luck! 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions I am going to be running in the dark for the first time as well. I am planning to stick to the roads and not use the park. Will look into the chest light, thanks.
