A 30-min run can be an overwhelming task to consider from an effort point of view. We are all inherently lazy, so if it seems like too much effort to commit to a long run, it’s almost certain that you’ll choose to not do it.

If we can simplify that run, we can make it easier to say yes to it. For example, instead of thinking ‘ugh, I should run for half an hour’, we can try ‘I’m just gonna put my trainers on and get outside for 5 mins’. That 5 mins might turn into 10, 20, 30 mins.

Make the task so easy that it’s almost impossible to say no to it. Then build your way back up.

Also, understanding WHY you run is important. So,

Why do you want to get back to running?

Look forward to hearing from you!😊

Thank you. I guess I just needed a kick up the backside! I set myself the challenge of doing the programme, managed to complete it (I never made 5k in the 30 mins though) and now it feels like I don't have that same motivation. I have had some good tips on here, though, so will give it another go.

Ok, so what do you actually want to achieve, and why do you want to achieve it? :-)

It sounds like your lacking a goal Devondumpling (great name by the way) I set my Fitbit to let me know when I’ve reached 5k and I’m trying to get there in under 30 mins, once I’ve achieved that I’ll try and gradually increase distance, basically you need a challenge. Two other things you might like to try are the free interactive zombie running app (see my previous post) which is fun and there’s also a Nike Running Club app, which looks great....I’ve downloaded it but yet to try it out.....just a few suggestions I hope may help you....👍

Have you read the guide to post C25K running?

healthunlocked.com/couchto5... in which I suggest finding some short, medium and long term for your running, otherwise it can seem aimless.

A target for each run, each week, month and year, which do not have to be performance based, can give you satisfaction of achievement and purpose to your running.

You don't have to run for 30 minutes on every run either.

Have some fun with your new found ability, running through the woods or along a beach, forget about time and pace.

I was exactly the same only did 2 runs in 2 weeks and had a failed 8 min run and went home.

I decided to go out yesterday and forget about the “fail” and did one of week9s runs with MJ in my ear- took it easy and when I heard him say that’s it you can slow down for your cool down walk I looked at my distance and I was at 4.5k- so I thought right let’s get to that 5k. I was nearly walking at one point but I did it, and it’s lit the flame again.

Set yourself a new goal even if it’s just to do another 30 min run without the app or to go a bit beyond where you last ran to.

You’ve got this - I was scared I would have lost my running legs but they did me proud, so will yours.

Message me if you need a partner to keep you motivated

I have another member of our fab community who is doing the same for me

Go for it, get your running gear on and get out there you’ll be amazing 👌🏻🏃🏽‍♀️

Thank you. I will give it a go this weekend. I'm glad it's not just me! I was beginning to feel like I'd failed!

I think a lot of people are the same. The thrill of doing the programme is huge then it’s tough to get motivated again.

Keep in your head how far you’ve come.

Did you manage to do the 5k in 30 mins? I am going to take note of your words and get started again this weekend.

No I did it in 35 minutes- so now I’m setting myself the target of bringing that time down even if it’s a few seconds each run. Want to try to set a new PB

Get back out and enjoy the run that’s the most important thing, if you feel like you can go a bit further then do, if not then don’t. Don’t give yourself a hard time- going out at all is a triumph in itself

You got this 💪🏻🏃🏽‍♀️

Best advice I can give is just get out there. Do what you can, it helps if you try and break it down in you mind. Tell yourself you’re doing little runs, alleviate the pressure you’re putting in yourself by saying things like, ‘I’ll just run to that tree’ and then when you get there, ‘oh I’ll just run to that lamppost’ etc 🙂
