It's done, in the bag, but was hard, a real effort with lungs working as hard as they could. It didn't feel healthy somehow but I was pleased to get to the end without stopping. The thing is, it's still so cold here, one degree in bright sunshine, so very cold air but the sun warm on my legs. The first 15 minutes was into a cold breeze, the second half, having turned round to come back, was into bright sunlight. But it's, done, this weird "penultimate tick the box run" before the final graduation run on Wednesday, hopefully. It occurs to me that I have almost achieved something incredible that I never imagined i could do, and have done that mostly in a Baltic winter with temperatures between minus 2 and plus 5, no more.
We are actually living in a science fiction film now, everything closed, the few people out are wearing masks and noticeably moving aside as we approach each other. Cafes in darkness, no prospect of any social interaction. Estonians are never gregarious, but have taken the isolation instructions very seriously. City streets are empty, as if the whole population of the planet has upped and left. It feels like the soviet occupation has returned, (although I have no idea what is was like to live through that) except that we can leave, but could not easily come back due to quarantine rules. An important psychological reward for these runs has been going to a cafe immediately afterwards for water, coffee and lunch, and there is one still open, with tables placed three meters apart and hand sanitiser on the counter, so think it's ok. I read alarming news from England, but eventually it's going to be everywhere, I think, anyway.
I hope to be here on Wednesday with the news of graduating from the programme. Keep safe, stay upbeat and thank you for being so supporting!
