Treated myself to new trainers yesterday as my old trainers have seen better days and hurt a bit, I’m a big guy and have suffered from foot problems in the past so want to look after the now and in making the purchase I have to justify it by getting out there and using them. Tried on several pairs at the shop yesterday and of them all these felt the most comfortable however the laces are exceptionally coming above my knees and the bow and loose end dragging on the floor when tied. The guy selling expressed he hadn’t seen that before and offered a reasonable discount which I took.

New trainers, a lengthy problem and my solution
Well I was going to add pictures showing the problem and how I had overcome it but it appears I’m unable so it will just have to be a description.
I decided to cut the lace and create new flugalbinders to prevent fraying I used clear heat shrink tube which once shrunk in then glued in place at the new length and trimmed them at that.
I firstly put the heat shrink on(electricians and carp fishermen often have it if you only need a small amount), shrank it to size using the steam from a boiling kettle(be careful) then glued it in place at the correct size before cutting it to length. Has done the trick, looks fine and hopefully will last. Just off to test it and the new trainers now but it’s saved me £20.
Just go running with friend!
Nice trainers and a sneaky hack!
