What to wear

I have completed week 1 run 2. Run 2 was easier than run 1 though I find it difficult hearing the start and stop over my music . If I turn the volume down the voice goes down as well.

What should I wear to keep warm at first but cool down as I get hotter?

Well done!

I wouldn't wear too many layers. I think 'technical' fabrics are best rather than cotton. You'll warm up soon! Perhaps a very light outer jacket, which you will probably take off pretty soon!

I just accept that I’m going to feel a little chilly for the warm up walk. It’s only five minutes. But yes, technical fabrics. Most of mine were originally for hill walking in fact. The key words to look for are wicking, breathable and quick drying. You want all three of those features not just one or two.

Spandex all the way. I wear a few layers and am quite cold to start but it’s worked for me for the past 6 weeks. Got some reasonably priced kit on Amazon. I dread to think what I look like but it’s comfortable and strangely putting it on gets my head ready for running.

If the temperature is about 6c or higher, the 5 minute brisk walk should warm you up nicely... I tend to wear a T-shirt and shorts all year round, though I have switched to running trousers recently (summer type) as they should keep me cooler when I’m sweating, and a long sleeve top (again summer) as it’s a UV protection top. Anything more than that I reserve for truly cold days... and right now winter gear is on discount most places, so I’m stocking up for December!

Well done 😁 I wear some lightweight thermal gloves which can be taken off easily & stuffed in the pocket of lightweight fleece....

For me the key is zip front for any layer over the t-shirt. Easy to aerate when I get too hot! My daughter gave me a running top with a zip and those long sleeves with thumb holes. It’s great over a t shirt; usually all I need. And if I get really hot I can strip off & tie it round my waist without pausing. 😄👍 I also like a summer hat with visor, like a baseball cap - keeps rain (and occasional sun) off my glasses.

Cotton is horrible if you get sweaty. It's trial and error really. I wear berghaus walking tops, sleeves up or down, zip up or down, so quite versatile. As already said, I try to just ignore being chilly when I start. I really hate being too warm.

I didn’t buy any new gear for C25K. I ran in jogging bottoms, a t-shirt and a hoody. I get hot when I’m running, so I’d take off the hoody and tie it round my waist. Then put it back on for the cool down walk.
