Perhaps a bit over the top for anyone deciding to give themselves the gift of running and pursue the tried and tested C25k programme.

Trust the adaption programme and use the forum now that you have found it.I remember not finding the forum until 4 weeks into it on my first occasion. It gives you all the support and information that match your unique needs to integrate this running malarkey with your lifestyle.

I have pursued my journey for 22 months and I have a plan emerging.I have posted on here earlier and as things progress I continue to search for ideas, inspiration, reasons and details that keep me broadly on track for my long term goal.

My plan has four main 3 month goals,

1) repeat C25k and consolidation with the get fit in 6 mins programme bolted on,

2) repeat Bridge 10k with much more hill intervals,

3) repeat build up and complete HM with an improved pace.

4) Complete a once in a lifetime marathon distance.

I am five weeks into this 12 month programme.

Like everyone there is other stuff to take care of,but this running malarkey has enabled me to find myself and be more comfortable in my skin.

Go the forum.

I am so glad that you are perusing your ambition for a once in a lifetime marathon, that is really something to aim for.

There are many marathon runners who began running with C25K or similar training programs, two years ago I found C25K, at first I thought that it was something to do with running a 25K, I looked it up and there was also a promotion for it on TV during the Great Scottish Run.

During the winter of 2017/18 when out on my longer walks I experimented with a series of short 1 minute runs including a walk/run on the exact same 5K course as the local 5K πŸŽ… Santa Dash which is held in December πŸŽ„ I walked that route in 52 minutes, before I began C25K I walk/ran it using 1 minutes runs and two minutes quick walks in 40 minutes, that believe it or not was about one month before I officially began C25K on 18th April 2018.

Unlike you Tbae I only wanted to run 5K or at the most 10K, when I told my daughter she basically ordered me not to go further than 10K, I am not sure what your family think of you going for a full marathon in the future, I think you mentioned last year that they didn't want you to run The Great North Run, so for a marathon???

The only way I am criticising you is when you call yourself "a odd ball" you are not, you are just full of an ambition as you call running "this running malarky"

Have a great weekend

Regards

Lovely story Alan how you got into running.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Perhaps the GNR comment was a misunderstanding πŸ€” my wife and two daughters have done it several times.I am the odd one out.I think it was Sqkr’s GNR report that made me reflect on events. No I have done the HM over a year ago in a non event and plan to just do the same for the full marathon.

I just want to experience the feeling of completely running/ trotting the distance and moving for 6 hours probably.

You have a good week end also Alan.

You are very supportive on here to many.

Nice plan! And a really nice goal (though I will just cheer you on at the marathon level!) Folks look for structure, but you seem to have figured out how to create a coherent plan from the bits. A good example to many, I suspect. πŸ˜„πŸ‘

I couldn’t agree more about the benefits of this forum! When β€œpeople” grumble about social media, I always think of this forum and smile. 😊 Nicest bunch on the web, I’m pretty sure, and the most helpful. Well done all those Admins & Mentors who keep it like that! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸŽ‰πŸ‘πŸΌ

Good luck with your plan. An exciting year ahead. πŸ˜„
