Hi all you September Questers......or is that Questors?
This is just an opportunity for those of you who committed to the September Quest to feed back about how you you got on, before roseabi takes on hosting the October Quest.
It has been a very mixed month for me. My aim was to do extra strength training on at least 3 non run days each week......which I have achieved, apart from this last week, when my knee has not cooperated at all. Not only was it not up to running, it was clear that, squats, lunges, jumping jacks etc. were not going to be beneficial, so I was reduced to the less stressful core strength planks and very little else, a couple of days ago. Yesterday I managed a 20k cycle ride and I actually quite enjoyed it and can see progress with my ability to cope with hills. So leg strength is being maintained, at least.
Some of you seemed to be struggling in different ways, so let's hear if you can lift the tenor of this Quest, having triumphed in your aims.
As I said, a new Quest will start in a couple of days.
We can prevail over the travails!!!

I managed to keep up with my news feed and read up on people's progress each week and I made it to 1 yoga class, the only time I had support to do so. Unfortunately I haven't managed to get to physio because I had to take my children to various appointments. I will have to try and get a new referral in the hope that a new appointment will not clash with something else.
I have been chasing my proverbial tail most of this month so I feel proud that I managed to do something. Albeit not quite what I had hoped.
Onwards and upwards into October in the hopes of keeping more of my intentions xx
I managed 3 runs in Menorca which was fun and very hot. We managed to run a 5k very slowly and grinned about that all day.We also did some intervals and our fastest 1k a week off for blisters and we get to the end of the month feeling happy with our first post graduate running
oh dear... not a great month for me either... have found my old niggles kicking in again, & various other commitments have meant that I've missed running days anyway... so have been going round & round with C25K wk 3&4... hope this actually strengthens things in the long run (or short run ) - your cycling sounds good - never something I got into much - might have to revert to 'fast walking'...
Mmmm......persistent niggles need to be addressed, which is why I went to the physio.......... although I am not convinced she has got to the root cause of my issues.
This months quest unfortunately ground to a halt when I did something to my knee getting up off a very small chair in the first week if the school term!
Been doing some walking, and went for a gentle (If windswept!) 15 min run today so fingers crossed for more luck with the October Quest!
Good on you for getting on the bike, they can be good for knees (weirdly!) I hope next month brings better knee news...
I've ended the month on a high; good outdoor fun and having bought a dreadmill, have found a way to have some fun with it, although the neighbours might disagree 🤣👍🏻
It gives me hope that I can acheive my winter goals.
My only niggle now is that my new trail shoes don't seem to be right for me and I really don't know which brand to try now... 🤔 retail therapy has never been so difficult!
No indeed, but to keep to my current goals I will for sure. The mill is to make winter easier (hopefully) as well as having joined a dance/ keep fit class too to stop me hibernating.
Finished September on a high note. Hubby and me (recent graduates) managed our first 4k yesterday. We did have to run for an extra minute, but we weren't going to stop so close to a milestone. Still can't believe how far we've come in 10 weeks!
Our main target at the moment is to stick with it, especially as autumn seems to have arrived very suddenly. I think we might need something measurable to keep us motivated, though
For the forum, I had goals for running, swimming and yoga.
Running was not a success - I barely managed 5k total never mind what looked a fairly modest 20km. The complexities of a blind canine companion are something I've not worked round well enough yet, although being entirely responsible for managing my son's timetable perhaps has at least as much to do with it. I have some thinking to do about running goals for next time... my weight is creeping up and up and I am sure that running is a major help.
However, I am very pleased to say that I completed my modest swimming goal of 3km total, as it turned out to be 3 months since my last swim. I am doing a virtual swim of the Derbyshire Wye river... and I think if I were going to Buxon on the A6 today it might really involve swimming!
I've exceeded my minimum goal of 17 days of yoga practice and achieved my goal of 5 of them being online classes. It helps me explore boundaries and try new things which may find their way into my regular personal practice.
My aims were to continue to run 3 times per week, increase distance, do strengthening exercises regularly and try a new route.
Mixed bag of results. Ran 2-3 times per week, runs between 30 and 40 minutes, still not managed 5k but did 4k, did strengthening exercises once (!) and didn’t try a new route, just carried on plodding round the same old park.
Hello all. I thought I’d posted my September quest but it seems I didn’t. However, I did achieve my goal! I started on C25K almost two years ago and now run 5k three times per week. I’ve improved my time a bit but would like to improve further. My quest was to shake things up a bit by doing two 6k runs to build up my stamina and one, faster, 3k run. I’ve found this helpful and will continue with this pattern until I can do 3k in 18mins.
I recommend C25K to friends all the time, I think it’s a great programme. I have never been sporty or athletic and at 63 I run 15k per week and feel great!
