Week6run3 complete but maybe too slow!

After having to have a week off the programme for various reasons I re ran run 2 on Thursday. Just come back from week6 run3 -I was really worried about not finishing it so took the pace easy. Maybe too easy!

I easily completed it and when the lovely Jo said that I had 5 mins left I really took up the pace and then when she declared the final 60 seconds I sprinted it. So I can do it that is for sure but how do I find a pace that’s right?

I’m looking forward to Monday when I can go again and start building it up. I got a fitbit for my birthday last week (one of the reasons I didn’t run!) so I can start to plot my speed and distance with that.

Meanwhile, you may know from my previous posts that I have been doing C25K with my lovely 14 yr old son! He’s a superstar and really keeps me going but today (at a height of over 6ft) I was just too slow for him. He was very funny- strange walk/run styles then a bit of Rocky style punching the air, imaginary shooting at flying birds! I had my headphones on and ignored but poor lad hardly got going!

He says he’s going to run it on his own tomorrow!

I don’t want for us the run separately in the future-we both started this together (equally unfit) back in July and we want to get to graduation together!

Any ideas on developing my pace?

You should keep at a slow pace for now as you are still developing your running legs .. You can build a faster pace at a later date . Well done you 😊😊

Well done.

The guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... explains the recommended easy conversational pace.

If you run with someone else, then somebody's pace is going to be compromised. Maybe he can run ahead and loop back to you.

If you are at the top end of your easy conversational pace, then there is no need to speed up.

You can’t be running too slow if you’re running... but you can be running too fast. Your lad is 14 and so he has an advantage or two over you, it’s pretty normal that he’s gonna be faster right now... maybe he always will be. The solution was given to me during my C25K journey with my now 13 year old... run at the same time, but not together... find a circuit and run it in opposite directions... high five when you cross over. Then there’s nobody slowing down or speeding up, just two amazing C25Kers running by themselves but not alone.
