Hello!

Here I am again and the month is moving on!!! Wow!

Sunshine here..but thunderstorms on the way... what fun!

Let us run between showers :)

The C25K Quest which has been up and running, ( pardon the pun) for a couple of months now, is proving to be very useful...but it would be great to see a few more new C25K Graduates joining in.

This is a great place to think about where you want to move forward to...

It is apparent from many of the posts which we reply to, that folk may feel a little lost after Graduation. It is tempting to move on too quickly after Graduation and quite a few folk feel that they take backward steps or are doing something wrong when things don't progress as they think they should.

This is a terrific place to find the advice you need, read other folks' goals, and to encourage each other as you move on to the next running adventure. Listen to some of the seasoned Graduate too, they are a bit further on in their adventures and may be able to give you more in-depth information:)

So please feel free to join in if you have graduated. We will be running these Quests every month, updating weekly, so don’t worry you can join in any time after Graduation, it doesn’t matter when it is even if it is just for the last week.

Also please join if you have graduated and are on the IC, We have found reading and supporting other runners when we are on the IC helps to keep motivation up and helps to still feel part of this community so if you are on the IC put your name down, we will support you all the way back to your first recovery run.

Here is the explanation of what the Quest is.

WHAT THE QUEST IS:

The Quest lasts for a calendar month

You can join any time within that time.

The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

We ask that you are a GRADUATE.

The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the programme your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train, ultimately, for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the Quest can talk about how things are going.

Our advice to you, is to make your goals achievable, as it is very easy to get discouraged if you aim too high. It is better to aim a little lower and feel great at the end of the Quest and add some more in for the next Quest. Motivation is at its best when you feel a sense of achievement through something you are trying to do.

OUR OTHER FORUMS

Please don’t forget that all the forums are here for your benefit. They are set up to help with questions and queries as your progress on your running journey. Feel free to join any or all. You will find different levels of help on each forum, so well worth a look around.

We have the Bridge to 10K - this forum is for runners who need a little bit more technical advice than that, offered on the C25K.

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto10k

We have the Marathon Running and Race support.

Again this is another step up in the type of advice that is offered and it is there if you should ever need it.

healthunlocked.com/marathon...

We have the Strength and Flex forum, which is set up to help you with the NHS stretches and strength workouts. Squats, lunges and the like are all in these programs.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

We also have the Active 10 which used to be called Walking for Health. It is a great forum for sharing your walks on your days off or if you are on the Injury Couch.

healthunlocked.com/active10

Please feel free to have a look round all the forums but also keep in mind we need YOUR help for new runners, so you can support and encourage them on the C25K forum as they learn to run, so they can come and join us on these Quests once they have graduated.

So, please do come and join the Quest...Your Forum Needs You!

Happy running to you all... stay safe and stay running:)

Goal: to continue running every other day. I am having some ball-of-the-foot soreness when walking or running on one foot; it is slight and I read that people of "MY AGE" sometimes suffer from it. Any hints from anyone as to a solution would be appreciated. I do notice that when I run on sand at the side of the road, that it is not a problem, but there are only just so many places of sand at the side of our road. New shoes? New inserts? I don't think I need new shoes yet. I still have some "grooves" on the bottoms....

Try some insoles... that may help!

Hey OldFloss, I pledged to run 3 times a week in June, so far so good. BUT, for the last week of June I’ve permitted myself a break because my mind and body was screaming out for it, so this coming week I am only doing Saturday - Wednesday - Saturday. I am sorry 🥺🥺🥺

You do what is right for you... that is all that matters:)

As I've just said about my own Quest, the goals are to serve you, rather than the other way round.

I posted on your other thread but I think this is the right place for my June goals! Copied and pasted...

My June goals have been to continue running three times a week (ongoing), complete another Parkrun which I did today (overslept and missed it last weekend!), take part in my first ever 5km race on 9 June and start the Bridge to 10k magic plan which is 8 weeks long and I completed Week 1 with a new PB at Parkrun today. Phew!

In a moment of optimism, I have entered the ballot for the London Landmarks Half Marathon next March. Will find out by the end of the month if I have been successful... Not quite sure whether I am hoping for a yes or a no! 😂

This sounds like a great plan...you are going to be just fine heading towards that HM... My first HM was in March too:)

I am really bored with a 2019 that's been all 'funny old months' now. Time for some long breaths out and a reminder to myself that my goals are to serve me rather than me to serve goals.

Weight loss has risen to the challenge, as it were, sadly. Most of the rest of the month will be holiday and since I feel I have earned a break cubed, well, I'll work on that one in July and just be glad if the combination of activity and intake balances out no heavier.

Swimming - well, I might swim a kilometre tomorrow and complete my goal, but it has been a while since I've done that far in a session and I have plenty to do.

Running has not happened much at all due to 'stuff' and Google's issues but have done some good walks and we are easing ourselves back in - Google is such a star. Combination of this, Google being a dog and being on the Norfolk Broads means that it will be a bonus if I get to use my running kit whilst away.

Yoga - I have a feeling my goal to do 4 online yoga classes and focussing on an online yin yoga programme may have got in the way of the overall 16+days goal. The yin is great but I've tended to think "Oh, I haven't got enough time for the class" and not done anything. However, if I keep at it, I'll still achieve the overall goal by the end of the month and I have done 4 online classes.

HI, Googleme! Have you seen PlantPure Nation, which is free right now on youtube.com? I recommend it. The little tips in there just might help you re weight, as it did for me--and no, I am not paid to advertise it; it's totally free info.

P.S. They're not selling anything and just want people to be healthy.

Well.... you are right... you pull back and let things find their place... You have had a lot of things to think about, but have kept some of those goals going:) Google sounds to be doing okay...just enjoy your holiday on the Broads...and if you can get some runs in..brilliant!

Hey Google, Have you done yoga before now?

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate in reply to JaoJao

Oh yes... it grew out of the running and I did it every day pretty much without fail for several years. Then Google had her previous 'episode' (different thing) and my morning routine went awry and now I need the Quest goals to help stop me drifting.

I’ve started salutations in the morning last few days. It’s like visiting a long lost friend. I found a picture on google for the routine I am most familiar with, there are many variations for all abilities. The sun salutations include lunges and planks and downward dog and upward dog, that’s my ‘strengthening’ covered I think.

Love my yoga routines too..and small runner in training, granddaughter...does an awesome downward dog..she's 2 and a half🙃

I don't do sun salutations as I very quickly find myself saying **** off Sun, alas.

You are just fabulous!! Unfortunately it has been a while since I have even seen the sun here!!

My Quest for June is to do some exercise beyond my everyday activities on at least one day out of three. So far I’m managing an average of one in two, which is great - and I’ve lost another 5lb of Ethel ! Yay !

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to ButtercupKid

This is great news. every little thing we do is so worth it...... and Ethel is diminishing too! Yeayayayayayay ! xx
