JAUNTY JUNE QUEST...WEEK 3...Come and join us...

Hello!

Here we are again and into another week..not sure what is going on with the weather... certainly not flaming June here!

But rain or shine we will run :)

The C25K Quest which has been up and running, ( pardon the pun) for a couple of months now, is proving to be very useful...but it would be great to see a few more new C25K Graduates joining in.

This is a great place to think about where you want to move forward to...

It is apparent from many of the posts which we reply to, that folk may feel a little lost after Graduation. It is tempting to move on too quickly after Graduation and quite a few folk feel that they take backward steps or are doing something wrong when things don't progress as they think they should.

This is a terrific place to find the advice you need, read other folks' goals, and to encourage each other as you move on to the next running adventure. Listen to some of the seasoned Graduate too, they are a bit further on in their adventures and may be able to give you more in-depth information:)

There are at the moment, loads of posts coming through from folk who Graduate a while back... their stories are well worth reading... !

So please feel free to join in if you have graduated. We will be running these Quests every month, updating weekly, so don’t worry you can join in any time after Graduation, it doesn’t matter when it is even if it is just for the last week.

Also please join if you have graduated and are on the IC, We have found reading and supporting other runners when we are on the IC helps to keep motivation up and helps to still feel part of this community so if you are on the IC put your name down, we will support you all the way back to your first recovery run.

Here is the explanation of what the Quest is.

WHAT THE QUEST IS:

The Quest lasts for a calendar month

You can join any time within that time.

The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

We ask that you are a GRADUATE.

The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the programme your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train, ultimately, for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the Quest can talk about how things are going.

Our advice to you, is to make your goals achievable, as it is very easy to get discouraged if you aim too high. It is better to aim a little lower and feel great at the end of the Quest and add some more in for the next Quest. Motivation is at its best when you feel a sense of achievement through something you are trying to do.

OUR OTHER FORUMS

Please don’t forget that all the forums are here for your benefit. They are set up to help with questions and queries as your progress on your running journey. Feel free to join any or all. You will find different levels of help on each forum, so well worth a look around.

We have the Bridge to 10K - this forum is for runners who need a little bit more technical advice than that, offered on the C25K.

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto10k

We have the Marathon Running and Race support.

Again this is another step up in the type of advice that is offered and it is there if you should ever need it.

healthunlocked.com/marathon...

We have the Strength and Flex forum, which is set up to help you with the NHS stretches and strength workouts. Squats, lunges and the like are all in these programs.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

We also have the Active 10 which used to be called Walking for Health. It is a great forum for sharing your walks on your days off or if you are on the Injury Couch.

healthunlocked.com/active10

Please feel free to have a look round all the forums but also keep in mind we need YOUR help for new runners, so you can support and encourage them on the C25K forum as they learn to run, so they can come and join us on these Quests once they have graduated.

So, please do come and join the Quest...Your Forum Needs You!

Happy running to you all... stay safe and stay running:)

I pledged 3 runs a week for June and so far so good. But I needed to check something... if I run Sat-Wed-Sat... that’s technically not 3 runs a week is it? I’m just thinking of moving to this format at some point after my consolidation weeks as my body will want a breather.

I usually run...Tuesday..Friday... Sunday... or any combination fitting in with life generally!

You do it your way.. to suit you!

I’ve had a massively busy time since graduation and have fallen down on two quests. This month I thought I’d make it really simple and just aim to get some form of exercise beyond the daily round on at least one day in every three. And so far I’m managing it ! By the skin of my teeth last week, but the average is actually one in two. Very pleased and strangely relieved 😅

I don't know what it is, but I'm back in this game! I've been running every other day, and for the coming month, that's my goal. Say, does anyone have any tips for not eating insects on their runs? I find that most repulsive. I'd rather run outside than at the Y, but I hate eating insects.

I get flies in my eyes, up my nose, in my hair... I hear you Lisa xx

LiisaM profile image
LiisaMGraduate in reply toJaoJao

What solution is there?

JaoJao profile image
JaoJao in reply toLiisaM

For the eyes I wear running glasses or even normal sunglasses will do.

LiisaM profile image
LiisaMGraduate in reply toJaoJao

I don't have a problem with my eyes, but with my mouth. I have a tendency to breathe in my mouth. (I wear glasses so maybe that part's working for me!) : )

You need one of those surgeon’s masks commuters wear in Japan. There’s a whole new business there for someone - sell them in a range of attractive prints and in hi viz with reflective stripes 😂

LiisaM profile image
LiisaMGraduate in reply toButtercupKid

Well, now, I googled Japan commuters and found this (which will make you smile if you haven't seen it....) youtube.com/watch?v=E7kor5n...

Don’t fancy that ! 😂

Maybe if you were snugged up to someone really cute or interesting :) x

ButtercupKidGraduate in reply toOldfloss

Snugged up, maybe. Force fed into their armpit, definitely not 😂

Ha ha !!! :)

You can tell a happy runner by the flies in her teeth . . . 😂

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toLiisaM

They must just find you irresistible...little black fly are the worst ...

you could try a home remedy...

Natural oil and vinegar. This is a natural fly repellent you spray on yourself. Place the following ingredients in a spray bottle and use to keep the pests away: ½ cup witch hazel, ½ cup apple cider or white vinegar, 50 drops of any of the following essential oils: catnip, , clove, eucalyptus, lavender, mint, or rosemary

I tend to mix my own concoctions for around the house...

I got three swims in last week to catch up with progress so that was good.

Yoga's been a wee bit slack but I am getting to grips with my yin yoga programme and have 3 classes under my belt, so I've ended the week happy.

Running... still complicated by newly blind dog and umpteen other things besides.

30DaysWild has been a tad limp on my part and I have relied on rather sedentary manifestations - of course the weather has been an element in that.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toGoogleMe

Yeay..very positive...My 30 days Wild is suffering too.Does me getting wildly angry count?

Your yoga sounds good...how is dog handling things..are you able to get out?

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate in reply toOldfloss

Haha... only if you did it outside! Or in, say, writing to your MP about something environmental.

Walking Google is OK, learning what to watch out for and what environments are easier for her. Just ordered a new harness and patches to alert people.

Hi Oldfloss. I’d like to join the Quest. Is there a specific group to sign up to or do I just need to follow this thread? Thanks! K

So far so good. Managed 3 runs each week so far, but work commitments mean next wee k will only be a 2 run week. I'm sure my legs will enjoy an easy week.

Exceeded my long run target. Now up to an hour and running 8k in the process following ju-ju- 's plan. Will try to push out to 9k on one of next weeks run.

Extended my 10k steps per day to a 102 day streak.

Edinburgh Race for life is tomorrow and my level 2 refereeing course is next weekend (hence why I can only fit two runs next week).

Onwards and upwards...
