How religiously do I need to take the 5 minutes cool down rule? I do understand a need for some transition between running and inactivity but the scheduled cool down seems as if designed as a transition between treadmill and the couch. In my reality, it is usually more than 5 minutes after coming home from the run before I sit down ( taking a shower, dressing, preparing breakfast etc. ). Other sites recommend things like 5 minutes of light jogging after a strenuous run, so do I really need a 5 minutes walk between 30 minutes of what more or less is light jogging and starting the usual morning chores?

I’m a complete novice at Wk 5 but 5 mins cool down certainly helps me who now has a dodgy Achilles because I didn’t do enough stretching off afterwards first time around so I know I need that brisk walk transition then the stretches and then flat footed pottering around house to get ready for work which usually involves me wearing heels so then for hours after my Achilles don’t get stretched . Take care.

I always do a cool down and stretch after every run.

While maybe not as crucial as the warm up, this article gives some good reasons runtastic.com/blog/en/cool-...
