W9. R1. Breathing

I did my W9, R1 this evening. I experimented with my breathing and did the complete 30 min run by just breathing in and out through my nose. No mouth exhaling as I have been. I found it really comfortable and felt like I had much more rhythm and reserve. Can you exhale more than you need too? Can you lose too much oxygen exhaling through the mouth ?

Great job on the run.

You can’t lose any oxygen through breathing... what you breathe back in will have more oxygen than what you breathe out every time!

Enjoy run 2... that podium is in sight.

You should simply do what’s best for you. Ideally you wouldn’t think about breathing at all. Do kids think about it when they run? Nope. If you breathe (nose or mouth) and feel comfy then it’s all good. If you lose your breath, slow down. You would be the first to know if you are oxygen deficient, don’t worry. ;)

I mouth breathe and you don't lose oxygen by breathing out, because when you exhale you are expelling carbon dioxide, which is why, especially if pushing hard, I do a full blowing out of my lungs to fully purge them of CO2, every fourth breath.p

That’s quite amazing, I have no chance as I get a bit snotty plus asthma so I take more air in through my mouth.

You must have a good pair of Lungs 👍

And on week 9, well done 👏

I will give it a go though and see what it’s like
