I am trying to find a way to get started. I need to lose weight for me and my health but also feel physically fit for me. I have some issues with my knees. I want to just get moving and get rid of the weight so they do not hurt so much. I figure starting slowly is easier and work my way up. What have any of you done or know that others have that are overweight?

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and explains the recommended easy conversational pace, which will be kinder to your knees.
Enjoy your journey.
I started c25k to help me get fit while losing weight. I dropped over a stone in one month just because I was being alot more active. I use c25k and my fitness pal to help me calculate my calories as you get more when you've done exercise. Just need to push yourself x

I also have weight to lose and have bad knees (plus a bad heal). I have found that by sticking with this programme, and staying very slow, I have managed to complete all of my runs so far. I have just finished week 7, running 25 minutes without stopping.
After each run (straight after the cool down walk), I do some good stretching. This has helped me hugely. I also do some low impact strength work on days without runs (I found loads on Youtube)
C25K has given me tonnes more energy, and my stamina is so much better. I have also found my knee pain has significantly reduced, as has my pain killer requirements.
Another benefit of C25K has been that it has helped me to focus on healthy eating (calorie counting), reducing the urges to binge on junk.
Good luck with your next run.
