Suprised I can breathe OK while 'running'!

Week ONE complete!

When I was at school, I pretty much refused to run, saying "I get short of breath when I run" - that was my mantra, (I more or less got away with it too!) - I was a dancer, I was pretty fit, and had various hour long lessons probably about 5 days per week! But running was an absolute no-no for me!

So, having finished week 1 of this programme (yay!) I am actually rather shocked that I observed today that I was 'able to breathe' when I was running/shuffling (I can't really say it was actually running... but it wasn't walking!) I was more aware of the discomfort in my legs (lactic acid I think).

Further, I noticed that the side of my lower right leg (not my calf or my shin, but the outside) was sort of pre-cramp... I think this reflects having suffered for over 6 months with Plantar Faciitis which probably caused me to adjust the way I was walking. I'm hoping this new regime will help my muscles to strengthen and improve!

So, I will continue one run at a time and hopefully not get too intimidated ... I'll keep to my "get up and just go" method and not over think getting out that door!

Well done - getting started is the hardest part! I also used to get puffed running at school and then faked an asthma attack to get out of it completely! The key thing for me with c25k was to learn how to run slowly, partly so I could actually run, but also to avoid injury. If you search Japanese slow jogging movement on youtube there’s a really useful video showing a slow running technique that’s helped me run for longer - and not injure myself. Good luck with this amazing journey - you’ll be astounded at what you can achieve!
