I completed Week 7 today too. Felt amazing. I was surprised at how much energy I had when I got home, I had completed 4 miles by walking home after my run. I feel really positive about completing the challenge now.
Well done!
π₯Doneπ₯. A great way to start the week!
Congratulations BCK on completing week 7 and beating Blue Monday, no blues for you. π π Onwards and upwards to week 8.πππ
Roll on Wednesday π
Hi BCK, I mentioned that I was studying a course from FutureLearn about autism called 'Understanding Autism'. from the University of Kent.
I have just finished week 2 and found it very informing, the subject was " Sensory Issues and Repetitive Behaviours"
I learned that autistic people have sensory problems that can have impacts on a child's life, some people with autism can do outstanding things that a person who is not autistic cannot do, such as memorise a poem or play a piece on the piano that he has just heard for example on the radio.
The word neurotypicals is a posh word for a person who is not autistic. The third part of the course continues next Monday.
Thatβs right - I remember that bit. Not all sensory issues are problems: it depends a lot on context. In fact, a lot of things which βnormalβ people describe as problems cause no difficulties to the person who is different - itβs the normal people who are having problems ! In the same way, itβs incorrect to refer to people as disabled. The disability is not in the person, but in the way society responds to them. In our family we refer to neurotypical people as βmainstreamersβ π
Correct BCK, yes I learned today that autism is not a disability or should not be referred to as a disability.
Could I draw your attention to a part of another section of Healthunlocked entitled 'Autism Support', you might find that interesting, I like the word "mainstreamers" for people who are not Autistic, that word neurotypical is very technical.
I also found neurotypical a bit too scientific. We get round the confusion of whether to describe ourselves as autistic people or people with autism by calling ourselves autists, but I donβt know of anyone else who does. I didnβt know there was an autistic support section. I wonder how many of the mentors are autistic π
Whooooo Hooooo BCK. Way to go you. Chuffed is an understatement. ππΌββοΈπππ. Wonderful Wednesday here you come.
Thanks Wimborne x What are you up to yourself ?
Lying in bed feeling rubbish ! π
Awww ! Poor you ! Blasted lurgy π‘. Get well soon x
And I was so smug thinking I had escaped it. Did manage a hilly run yesterday as knew it was coming on and thought Iβd get out before it took hold. I am learning to run hills and have bravely moved away from my very safe and trusted park as literally I was so bored going round and round and round. So extended rest days this week with tissues, cold and flu tablets and may even get my boys to make me a lemsip. Seriously house looks trashed and have only been in bed since yesterday lunchtime. I darent look downstairs. π
Well done! You're such an inspiration
Well done, itβs a great feeling, canβt wait to get back to Week 7 again! ππ»
Where are you at now ?
Starting week 4 this week, went out with club on Sunday and enjoyed the training.
Ooh fab. Youβve put a song in my head too π
Oh dear I missed this 3 days ago....very well done youβre flying along now πββοΈ. Youβve probably completed w8r1 by now. Happy running πββοΈ
