Don’t worry. Once you get through 5 minute intervals, your breathing falls into place. Just breathe however possible for now.

it is worrying when you feel yourself getting out of breath. Try to relax your shoulders and all your upper body, being tense makes it worse and you will find that if you are concentrating on something other than your breathing your body will take over and your breathing will fall into place. I always try to keep my shoulders dropped and my hands unclenched, its surprising how quickly I become hunched and clenched fisted I become if I don't make a conscious effort to relax them. Good luck and well done :-)

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You can always go slower. If you cannot speak clear ungasping sentences as you run, you are going too fast.

Enjoy your journey.

Try talking... part of talking is to regulate the breathing, so it can help a lot... you may look crazy, but if it works for you it’s worth it.

Weird for me to try to explain how I did it. I just kept breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. Just kept doing it until it became second nature 🙂
