Worried......

I haven’t posted since I started this journey last June but I enjoy reading all your posts. I’m worried and not sure what’s happened..... i graduated just before Christmas ( yes I took it really slow!) I’d been really disaplined and enjoyed it all even the difficult runs! But.... I was on a treadmill in garage! I wanted to get out as the treadmill was great but boring. My neighbour is a ‘real runner’ 🏃‍♀️and has been encouraging me to try and run outside. I have now......3 times but not gone well, feel it’s a much harder run, the wind pushing me back, I’m not sure of the pace I’m running and I’ve started too fast then struggle to finish. I should of ran yesterday and found an excuse not too. 😟I don’t want to be like this as it was giving me a real buzz, I’ve lost weight and my body shape has changed for the better! Feel a bit deflated....😞. Xx

I think you need to pick your day if you’re not used to running outside. A beautiful, crisp, sunny winter morning, and pick somewhere lovely (and flat) to run. I often drive to the canal near to me when I need a flatter run. A lovely morning in a beautiful setting can be really good for the soul and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it more. I hope you find your buzz again x

Well done you... Running outside is very, very different.. as you have found.

So...please, don't give up.. it won't always be cold or wet or windy. The days are stretching out slowly and surely...Find a route you think you will enjoy...walk it...then head out for a little sample. Just run.

Forget pace, distance or time...I can run twice as fast on my trainer as I can outside...no comparison.

Just go out and get a feel for it.

Make sure you are equipped for the conditions.

Inside.. everything is controlled... outside... nothing... every one of my runs is different even on my old familiar routes... I can run one of them in a certain time one day, easy no problems and then the next time... it takes an age and I find it more challenging.

You have lost weight.. feeling fitter..this is a new chapter...start turning the pages... slowly and steadily...we are still right here...

Well done for going out, I was running round my local park but found it sssssooooo boring, I decided yesterday to go along the beach and it made such a difference to my mood and my run I was actually happy to be out running which I never thought I would be.

I hope things improve don’t give up xx

C25k was a challenge, which you took on and overcame.

Running outside is another challenge, which you have started to overcome.

Yes it is harder than the dreadmill, but you can beat it.

Have you read the guide to post C25k running ?healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Hate to break this to you... but you are also a ‘real runner’ now! Congratulations on graduating C25K. As an outdoors runner I can relate to your issue... I really don’t get on with the treadmill! I could with practice, no doubt, but my attempts to actually do it end real soon. So, my hat is off to you... I have a lot of respect for anyone who can do the plan down the gym on the treadmill, and you did it alone in the garage... superb effort and discipline. You need a nice still dry day and then just go... find somewhere quiet and talk to yourself out loud as you start, that’s the pace to go at, track the run and don’t worry about distance, just log and stay at that conversational pace, and your tracker will tell you how many minutes per km or mile you were running. Next time out, run at that pace and see if you can do 20 minutes, maybe 25. Then you can do a longer one as per the plan... maybe 20, 25, 28, 30... maybe even follow the plan again from week 7? You’ll get there... you have all the tools you need, running legs, and a determination and focus to get the job done. Soon you’ll be able to laugh at your first outdoor attempts like I laugh at my pathetic attempts on the treadmill. Keep on going, you’re a victory.
