Has anyone ever had that moment, I'm sure you have, when you try to overtake another walker? You've caught up with them, reason that you're walking faster, and so the overtaking should take a matter of seconds? But once there, it takes AGES and the seconds seem like minutes as you're side by side not really knowing what to do?
Well....that happened to me today, but with another runner! I'm pretty sure he was a secondary school aged boy, and I'm also pretty sure he didn't appreciate being overtaken by an overweight gal. So he sped up, lost momentum, sped up, lost momentum. My mind was going wild. I was thinking WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? WHEN WILL IT END? AM I GOING FASTER? MAKE SURE YOU STAY THE SAME PACE. TURN AROUND. NO, DON'T TURN AROUND THAT'S STUPID. IGNORE HIM. OH MAN, IT'S REALLY HARD TO IGNORE HIM HE'S RIGHT THERE. And on, and on and on for 1.5km....
Anyway, despite the cringe worthy kilometres, today felt awesome. I felt so fit and healthy in the last 5 minutes. When I wasn't thinking about the young chappy, I was thinking about how far I've come in such a short space of time and how life changing this program really is.
Sorry for the long post. Wishing you all a lovely end to the week π

Hahaha be careful chasing young men lol some might take offence. Strangely I was running this morning and could see a young lady about 200m ahead of me walking and thought the same as you (I'll soon overtake her) but she was walking quite briskly and even though I managed to go past it felt like an age before I could let my belly back out lol. It reminded me of 2 lorries overtaking on the motorway when one is only going about 1/2 mile per hour faster ππ
Let your belly back out π that's hilarious! It's good to know that somebody was in the same boat as me today. Imagine us running together, what a pair! π
My along river path is not wide enough for two, so I would probably push the young guy into the water, as would be too afraid to overtake on the water side by myself
Sounds crazy, but you can start up running conversation which also make sure your running pace is not too high I have no idea what I would do, probably speed up too much and get out of breath. So well done you for keeping the steady pace!
I never run close to home when the local schools are starting/ finishing. Some of those sixth formers WALK soooooo fast, even when Im running they leave me way behind π³
Hahaha, it's horrible, isn't it?! I am a primary school teacher here and during week one, even though I travelled a good 25 minutes from my house, I STILL saw one of my students. I'm going to start running in the dark hehe
