Hello all!
My 49 year old body has been pretty forgiving of my attempt at C25K to date. Today though I’m really feeling it in my knees and hips.
Any tips that will make the W2R3 more bearable will be gratefully received 😁

We all have different bodies and pain thresholds, so difficult to give a precise answer, but if you bear in mind but most new runner's aches are as a consequence of the impact, do as much as you can to reduce that.
Slow down, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill and wear proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop.
For me most of the general aches subsided around W5.
Many thanks for the reply. I definitely need to work on my foot strike and having read a few other tips I think I can safely say I’m going too fast too soon. Looking forward to W2R3 on Friday to try things differently.
Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
I’m 49 too and at the beginning thought people could walk quicker than I was running but it was running regardless and I’m getting quicker. Keep it up 💪 #69’erscandoit
Ibuprofen! Helped me massively early on 😂
Take the advice from IannodaTruffe ... slow and steady does it....Try to land lightly too...I call it kissing the ground with your feet
We expect aches and pains... relax and know it will pass
Never tried it myself (don’t have a bath) but a soak in Epsom salts or similar is supposed to help.
Hi AchingHips!
I'm knocking on 49's door and vastly overweight (but losing it ) My knees were feeling it a lot too and it wasn't until maybe week 4 they eased up, or maybe that was because my hips started aching and then that subsided and my thighs started aching during the run. I'm no expert (on week 9 now) but I think as long as you take it easy the aching will pass - I think its just our bodies saying we haven't used that part of our body in that way for 30 odd years be careful. Maybe consider a 2 day rest in between a couple of runs to give them a bit more rest. You're doing brill and so much more than many of the population who are still couch surfing!
Oh and I absolutely advocate for Epsom salt baths - I've just received an order of 25kg of the stuff
