Band of pain below knee?

I graduated a few weeks ago and did my first park run last weekend. I've not run for a week and tonight when I went running 20 mins in I had a tight/pain in my right leg mainly on the outer side just below my knee. I've had this before but sometimes when I run it's not at all. Only ever after about 20 mins. It's fine as soon as I stop running. What is it? How can I prevent it? Thanks Steph

Someone may recognise the condition from your description, but most of us are not medically qualified and so we suggest that any recurring issue is referred to a medical professional, either a GP or preferably a physio.

Take care.

Thank you. I'm hoping it disappears. I will see a physio if it doesn't but diverted if anyone else has had a similar experience?

I have dodgy knees and my best friend is the physio (actually she hates me a bit less these days). It may be that a slight correction in your running gate will stop the issue, so it maybe time to visit a sports physio. Regular physio will be able to give you some extra exercises specific to your pain whilst checking for signs of actual damage.
