🎶Gimme All Your Running' 🎶(apologies to ZZ Top)

I woke up early this morning, but it looked so cold and icy out I made myself a cuppa and slunk back to bed. But this was no good, I was supposed to be running. For some reason I just didn’t feel like it. As I reached for my phone I realized what it was. I needed a new playlist…

After checking out a few tunes on Hidden 's latest podcasts, I decided to enjoy the warmth and put together a new list of my own. So although this new diversionary tactic took about 40 minutes of general faffing on Youtube and Deezer, I was at last armed with some music that I wanted to listen to, and so had to get out of bed and get going.

It didn’t take me long to get kitted up and on my way.

The beginning of the run started well, and Talking Heads’ “We’re on the Road to Nowhere” seemed like an appropriate choice. I’m still easing myself back in after spending too long on the injury couch, and I knew I needed to take it steady. And a bit of ZZ Top’s “Gimme All Your Lovin' " was perfect to keep me going when my mind was telling me it was about to get tough.

🏃🏽‍♀️

I’ve got to run a lot.

My legs are tired, as are my feet.

I’m starting to feel hot.

I wish that I could take a seat.

☀️

Gimme all your runnin',

Sun is out enjoy the view.

Gimme all your runnin',

Can't let up until I’m through.

🏃🏽‍♀️

I’ve got to speed it up

Or I could just have stayed in bed.

Determined not to stop

Not letting my legs turn to lead.

🏃🏽‍♀️

Gimme all your runnin',

Past crocuses with yellow hue.

Gimme all your runnin',

A field of cows all saying moo.

🐄

I’ve got to move it up,

Get up the hill and to the wood.

Now running like a pup,

My second wind, I’m feeling good.

🐶

Gimme all your runnin',

Through mud which sticks to me like glue,

Gimme all your runnin',

I hope it’s mud and not dog poo!

💩

Gimme all your runnin',

Did 8k then another 2.

Gimme all your runnin',

Now I’m home I’ll have a brew.

By the time I was home I was feeling on cloud nine.

😊 😊 😊 😊

Thanks Jancanrun for the musical inspiration.

Other tracks I enjoyed included:

Echo Beach – Martha and The Muffins;

Solsbury Hill – Peter Gabriel;

Follow You Follow Me – Genesis;

Go Your Own Way – Fleetwood Mac;

Rock The Casbah – Clash;

Young Americans – Bowie;

Everybody Needs Somebody – Blues Brothers;

Pump It Up – Elvis Costello;

Steppin’ out – Joe Jackson;

Shake a Tail Feather – Ike and Tina Turner;

Keane – Can’t Stop Now;

Valerie – Amy Winehouse;

Clint Eastwood (Irie Refix) – Gorrilaz.

It was a bit of an eclectic mix, but one for the Retro Runners maybe…

okay I am now in Winter Training Camp (more likely tapas eating camp) but I like this new list - I will add some of these to my must run lists, although I can't abide Talking Heads, so do you mind if they don’t make the cut?

8k plus another 2, so that is one gauntlet laid down - I cant believe you are just in recovery mode. But tomorrow tapas belly permitting, I hope to emulate you!

So very happy your back with a vengeance - I’ve missed the lyrical inspiration

Happy running

X

I love the idea of your Tapas Training Camp. Tomorrow I shall be doing Kettle Bell Training, followed by PCT Eating, as a friend of mine just came back from a trip to Lisbon this evening, and she actually drove to my house on her way home from the airport to drop off two fresh PCT.s I'm tempted to eat them now, but it's a bit late so will save them for my post workout treat.

Don't worry about Talking Heads - I can't bear most of their stuff, but Road to Nowhere and Psycho Killer I quite like (I had to rename the latter as Cycle Killer on a run last year, after a cyclist nearly ran me over and I was plotting my revenge!)

I remember ZZ Top in Dublin in '85 or 6. Crowd of yobs tried to wreak havoc outside the venue when they were not allowed inside. The 'Hard Boys' did not realise one of the parked buses had just arrived a few minutes later and was full of Security guys getting geared up and ready to patrol...Running 5K in 30 minutes, the boyos ran at least a hundred yards in 5 seconds when Security started pouring off the bus in their direction :)

ah yes - Happy days... LOL

I also had Legs on my playlist (which I always cringed at - sexist), but this morning I thought, "Yeah, I've got legs, and I know how to use them - to run ;-)"

I was going to ask if you would do some alternative lyrics to Legs? Love your take on Gimme All Your Lovin' - happy memories of seeing them in 1990. Poodle hair rock is my era and misspent youth!

The alternative lyrics just seem to write themselves in my head when I'm running. If I have any ideas next time I'm running with that playlist I'll post them here.

By the way, I love your user name - it reminds me of a cat in one of the Hairy McClary books I used to read to my daughters when they were much younger. :-)

Hairy McClary from Donaldson Dairy , for my daughter 💞got the follow on books for my grandchildren , just so magical 👍🏻

I shall look forward to more lyrics or just rhymes like good old Hairy Maclary. You are quite right - we loved these books too and the name is in homage to the naughty cat who went on the prowl every night stealing random objects & trashed the house whilst the owners were out!

If you look through some of my previous posts you'll see I often end up making up alternative lyrics to songs on my playlist. It helps distract me when I'm finding it tough. I even did a version of Michael Rosen's We're Going on A Bear Hunt .

Great list - I'd somehow forgotten Everybody Needs Somebody :O How on earth did that fall out of my brain? I'll be singing that all day now - thank you! :)
