All the info about warming up and post run stretches is here
The post Floss refers to gives you the best advice, but I can also tell you that I started the C25K programme nearly 6 years ago now and I still do my 5 minute warm-up walk and my cool-down walk. I tried out a summer running club for beginners but they set off at a run straight from the meet-up. Perhaps they had all warmed up first, but they didn't say anything about warming up first to any new people (that I heard, at least). They did some exercises on the first bit of the run and then stopped after about 3 minutes to do some stretches, but I felt very uncomfortable and made sure I'd done a good brisk walk first.
We still do the 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down walk EVERY time. And then a few stretches when we get home. Very important. Don't scrimp on those or that way injury lies ....
Yes, always warm up and cool down. Dynamic I.E. moving stretches to warm up, followed by your 5 minute walk, then 5 minute walk followed by static stretches to cool down. Don't skip or you're likely to get injured...
I do about 20 dynamic stretches on the warm up, then hold the static stretches for about 8 - 10 seconds on the cool down. The whole thing doesn't take long, the exercises Floss gave the link to are perfect, just make it part of your routine.
