After some advice, on Thursday I was walloped sideways by a flu bug. Now at 115kg I am not the smallest person but I lost Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. I didn't know I could sleep so much.
My question is once I have shaken this bug off should I just start slow and steady rebuilding my strength or see what I can do? To say I am a bit miffed is an understatement. Just as I graduate the C25K am now fitter than I have been in years 😷😷

Sorry you’re feeling crook. It really depends how long you are I’ll for and how bad you feel. You shouldn’t lose to much of your strength after a week, but if it’s a long bug then you may need to build back up again. In fact a week off running will give your legs a well deserved opportunity to rest which can be good for them. In the meantime wrap up warm,, keep yourself hydrated and eating healthy if you can. Hope you feel better soon.
Oh dapsmith, sorry to hear you are poorly - what a bummer!
The joy of being a graduate runner is that you can do what you like, you are no longer running to a programme, so have no time to complete. If I were you, once well enough, take yourself out for a nice slow run and see how long you can manage. You won't lose stamina in a week, so you might surprise yourself!
Firstly, make sure you feel better...Make sure you are well hydrated, eating properly and temperature is normal etc etc..
Reduce your running distance maybe... Please don't try to go out and run your usual runs when you do head out. Your body has been through a lot, fighting off the virus, and doesn't have the same stamina and energy level Pull back, go gently and listen to your body.
Take your time... If you are recovering from the flu, it can take weeks for you to get your full strength back. Don't expect to be back to normal quickly...Your body needs strength-building time to recuperate. If you overdo it while you're weak, you risk lowering your immune system and becoming sick again.
So... heal well, take care, and when you do head out, ( Yep, you know what I am going to say)
Slow and steady!!
Sorry to hear you are poorly. Take care, lots of fluids, keep warm and look after yourself. True flu is really nasty and as Oldfloss says it will take it out of you. So don't rush back and try some leisurely, easy runs when you are ready to go. Listen to your body!
