I'm 56 and never done a lot of running but am reasonably fit am I suitable for c25k?
Trying hard: I'm 56 and never done a lot of... - Couch to 5K
Trying hard
Yes, absolutely. The great thing about this programme is that despite being one-size-fits all, it FEELS tailor made. There is never any pressure to reach a certain distance, speed, or pace, it always focuses on your ability to keep putting one leg in front of the other for increasing periods of time. The rest will come bit by bit. Give it a go, you will not regret it!

You are right, James, and it works like this because it is about time and not distance. That's its genius, isn't it? We can all (eventually) run for one minute and will each cover a different distance in doing so, take a different number of paces and breaths but we can all do the same minute. As you say, it makes an "off the peg" programme tailor made.
Oh yes.. come on in and welcome... I am 67.. a lot fitter than I was before I started and suitable..hmmm..better ask my forum friends on here
This is a great programme.. and we are all ages, shapes and sizes too!
Start slowly and steadily and keep to it. Take your rest days and listen to your body... ( it will grumble at you quite a bit at first ).
Post on here, for super support and advice... we are all in this together.. whatever level we are at .. ask any questions, however silly you may feel they are..if we don't know the answer someone will!
Just run at your own steady pace and...begin!
Yes I am 56 also was very unfit but managed to Graduate today . Welcome to the forum
62, not sporty but active and relatively fit. Never a runner before now. Started in January, took it very steadily, finally realised just how slow I could go and still be running and finished the programme a few weeks ago. Life changing in the most positive way you could imagine.
Come on in, the running's lovely.
Absolutely ... can't really add to the other replies other than to tell you I started in February this year 3 months before my 60th birthday and did my first Parkrun the day before my birthday.
You can definitely do this, there's lots of support and encouragement on this forum and we'd love to hear how you're getting on.
So, running shoes on and off you go!
Good luck and happy running!
Yes! The fact that you're reasonably fit puts you ahead of many of us when we started. Go for it!
Certainly, I did c25k a few year's back at 60 my wife did it at 61, never had done much running, you'll be fine, remember to only run slow n steady, many go off too fast or think they can run faster and speed up, but end up on the injury couch, so speed is key, also, best to get some running shoe's fitted at a good running store..
Of course you can do it and enjoy it. I started at 70 as after the death of my beloved dog I needed an excuse to get out. Today I ran my 3rd Parkrun and came first in my age group, sadly I was the only runner in my age group. Hey ho, it's still a great feeling. 😀
ROFL
You should see the state of some of us who are Graduates
This programme is VERY good at converting "Can't Runners" into "I AM A RUNNER"s.
🙂
Yup! Doesn't matter who you are , where you do it, what you want to achieve it's a cracking programme for anyone.
Yes! I was a non runner. Had ligament and cartilage ops before I took it up. I've been running two years now. I have reached 10K distances. I'll be 52 this year.
Can't add anything except with the decent shoes you need a good running bra!!! Lots of us started older and less fit than you. Go for it, you won't regret it!
All of the above and get the best high-impact bra you can!
I'm 56 too and have just completed C25K. I am a couple of stone overweight and I hadn't run since I was at school. You can do it!
I'm 59 and graduated this month. Believe me if I can do it anybody can!😉
I'm 70 and graduated a month or so ago. I was dragged into this program kicking and screaming by my son, and even my doctor gave a reluctant "Be careful not to overdo it" admonition. After I got to the point where I told my doctor that I'd run 20 minutes at one stretch, she said, "Keep it up!" So do keep it up, Mary 112! Glad to see you here!
