What a fab ad for the benefits of ParkRun, I must admit I didn't even know you could just walk them.... it just shows what a great idea it is.

Ours started with all runners but it's grown to include walkers as well which is so exciting. I love seeing the full spectrum of speeds out there. Great for folks that are injured/can't run/new/feel like a stroll.

Fantastic! They are wonderful. I have done most of mine at Eastbourne. My first time there I got a bit confused as to where I was supposed to be going. Seeing my confusion, one of the super fast guys who had finished hours previously, ran back onto the course to join me, make sure I went the right way and to encourage me to keep running until the end. THAT is what Parkrun is about. I don't have one on my doorstep but I have five or six fairly close. If you go to the page for the specific run you are looking to do, it will tell you about the course and you can look at the results to see what kind of time it generally takes people. There will always be serious runners who do it in less than 20 minutes. In my opinion (only my opinion) that isn't what Parkrun is about, although, of course, the beauty of Parkrun is how inclusive it is. I'm trying my third different one this weekend! Whatever you do, make sure you take your barcode! Make sure you tell them (i the briefing) that it's your first time - you'll get a round of applause!

Will be doing my 1st one on September 9th, it's what I've been aiming at and am being sponsored to do it with sponsorship currently standing at £435 (for veterans charity)

Read this earlier, she's fab isn't she. I'm doing my fourth Parkrun on Saturday and I'm loving it. I recommend it to anyone who'll listen 🙂

Loved reading that piece. Well done to that lady. Parkrun is amazing. I've done 12 so far and volunteered 3 times. At my local Parkrun there are all sizes, all speeds and all ages taking part. There is also a group of special needs runners each week who are an integral part of the Parkrun community and get the same warm cheers and compete the same as us all. Parkrun is all inclusive and for everyone. It's great to go to a weekly running race where the biggest cheers go to the runners who come across the finish line long after the elite runners have gone home.😀👍

I couldn't agree more. Last week I was really running on empty as I came up to the finish. There were only three or four people behind me but there was a little girl sitting to the side of the funnel clapping and cheering me on. With about 1km to go at Eastbourne you run past the finish area and it's a huge boost to have those who have already finished standing applauding you as you stumble past! I think a lot of people have a lot of worries before they do their first one - what if I can't run it all, what if I'm last (which you obviously never can be now they have introduced tail walkers) etc etc - but after your first Parkrun you realise these fears are irrelevant because none of these things really matter. I prefer running on my own but that can be lonely - for me, Parkrun is the perfect solution. You can run on your own but with others around you.
