Just completed the second run of Week 5. I didn't know whether I would get this far when I started out. My cardio-vasular fitness is probably better now than it's been in years (rare lung disease not withstanding!). What has definitely helped is that I've started swimming twice a week, about 20 lengths at the moment and am following a swimming training plan. My plan (dream!) is that come Spring I will be able to start open-water swimming with the wetsuit I bought last year , get out on the bike again and maybe, maybe be able to complete a (sprint) Triathlon, which was the reason I bought the wetsuit in the first place, before life took a very different turn. A big dream I know but you gotta aim high!
Feeling the difference...and the big dream. - Couch to 5K
Feeling the difference...and the big dream.
Well done on making it to halfway.
When I did the plan I founf the 2nd half easier as the runs became more continous.
Good luck with the rest of the plan and to completing your first triathlon.
Sounds good! ☺ Open water swimming is something i'd love to have a go at
Swimming is good for the lungs, and will compliment your running I would have thought. good luck ☺
Well done, twolungs - I also have a rare lung disease and managed to graduate from this programme. Sadly, now I'm on the injury couch, but that's another story!
Running will hugely boost your breathing and lung health generally, and anyway, before you know it, you'll be hooked!
Swimming is a great idea and will totally complement your running. You'll find once you've been running a while that you can swim farther and faster too - it's all good!
Brilliant! I have been swimming and cycling as well as running. I really felt the swimming and running complimented each other and really improved my breathing, and stopped me getting stitches. It's amazing each week of the programme that for both running and swimming I could recover faster and faster.
I have thought that I should try a triathlon since I'm doing all the events anyway! But not sure it's for me. And I love the idea of doing a "Loony Dook" once, but definitely too much of a coward for regular outdoor swimming!
