Now its the left knee.. :(

So after posting a few weeks back that my right knee was giving me pain, I did as I was told on here, by all you lovely people and took a week out, and rested my right knee, during the week I did some swimming, to ensure I kept my motivation up.

Now the right knee is hunky dory, and feeling strong, but now this weekend the left knee is doing the same thing. Which is a real pain, as I was due to finish week 4 today, and embark on what looks like the big week of change, week 5.

But now I shall have to rest up for a few days, whack on the ice pack and watch some dross on TV instead, well again I've got my swimming clobber with me, so shall go for a paddle later, doing the breast stroke, really seems to assist the knee, and put some strength back in to it.

After my right knee got better, I repeated the week I had just done over again, so I may have to do that with week 4, and put week 5 back even further, but to be honest that doesn't really bother me too much, as repeating it, just adds to the fun anyway :)

I'm putting these injuries down to the fact that I've not run for 20 + years, but am also wondering whether I should do a treadmill test, to get the best trainers for my feet. At the start of this, I did purchase some Asics, but just off the web, no fitting or test, could that be causing me issues I wonder?

So nothing more to say than that really, just a moan and a gripe!

Yes, get a gait analysis if you can... wearing the right shoes for you is vital in preventing/resolving injury and making your runs as comfy and enjoyable as possible. We all get niggles, but then, as someone wisely said, running's not meant to be easy at any level.

All the best.

I'm sure someone has already posted this but knee strengthening exercises really helped me when I had knee problems. Mind you, as you say, breast stroke is a great for knees anyway. Hope you get it sorted soon and by the time you hit week 5, you'll be raring to go :)

I went through a spate of knee pain/stiffness which didn't stop me running so I hope rest does work for you. I found strength and flex exercises made a huge difference. My problem is that when I run, I don't really move my knees much. I have seen some runners bouncing along bending their legs but I think my issue was caused by the way I run. Anyway since doing the exercises every day, my knees are stronger and pain free - squats, knee lifts, backwards kicks - should be easy to find on the internet 😀
