How often do you replace your trainers?

I've had my pair for about a year now and according to map my run, they've done about 250 miles. They are still comfy and fit well but are dirty and muddy. I'm in two minds as to whether they need replacing or not. Just wondering on what grounds you choose to buy new shoes?

I was told that normally they should be replaced after 500 miles. You can always try washing them?

Beware though, my hubby washed a pair of trainers (not running shoes I hasten to add) and they shrunk. Smelt good but didn't fit him any more :-)

"The shoes’ shock absorbers weaken over time, increasing your risk of injury. It’s advisable to replace running shoes every 300 miles (482km)."

Runkeeper has the ability to track mileage for shoes, and reckons 350 miles per pair, which is about what I'd seen elsewhere.

Brush them off and use for another 50 miles at least, if they feel OK. Have washed mine no problem, but don't make a habit of it, and don't use washing machine or hot water...😊

When the holes in the uppers are so big that all the mud getting inside the shoe is uncomfortable.

Not all shoes are made equal. You might check the manufacturer's blurb as it might give you the expected mileage. A quick search on Google should yield the info. I searched for the expected mileage on my new Zealots and was pleased to find 450 to 500 miles. Some trail shoes have higher mileages.

The shoes lose their bounce and you might even start to feel the ground a bit too much for your liking. I had a pair of Nikes go on me but they have done a heck of a lot of miles, but they completely lost their ooomph so I'm pretty sure you'll know when that day comes. Being mucky is fine. If they are still comfy then I would keep going in them.

I wore mine for 2 years and ran maybe 1000 km in them, so decided that although I could still run in them I would get a new pair. The difference - BOUNCE !!
