Papabear, I know at yoga there was a simplified version of this, but can't quite remember it.

It would help to understand the issue: is it getting your top leg over the other knee, or reaching the bottom leg?

I'm sure someone here can help.

Yes its getting (As in the picture) the right leg over the left on and grabbing the left leg. I think after another couple of weeks of excercise I will manage this but at the mo my joints are no that supple. 😳

Can you get to a Pilates or yoga class as either will help with increasing suppleness?

Looks like a glute stretch. You can control the strength of the stretch by sliding the right (upper) leg further across the left (lower) knee. I find when I'm doing them that one side is perfectly fine, but for the other I have to try a few times before I find the leg position that gives the right amount of stretch.

Just read your update below. Sorry. Should have started with that. If you can't get your lower knee bent enough to be able to grab it, then just slide a towel up under the knee (held between your hamstring and your calf, if you see what I mean) and pull the towel. Sort of like making your arms longer.

Is there any reason that you have to make yourself do this right now?

I looked up warming down excercises on the NHS and that is what I got.. No now I've found some less challenging excercises to warm down.

Hi oldpapabear,

Just wanted to say that I do all my stretches standing up, I don't get down on the floor..That looks like a glute stretch which could be done sitting on a chair or standing (hold on for balance)

If something is impossible find another way of doing it. :)

Thanks for that now I'm now going to some that are all standing and not that challenging. 👏
