The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing London to Paris

Back on track for me this week. Only has 1/125ml glass of red last night. That's all I've had all week. Good food and 2 runs (1-5km & 1-7km) and 2 / 5km walks. I have my 5km event with my neighbour on Saturday, she has just recently graduated so I'm going for moral support. It's a Big Fun run so no time chips but we get bling. I've never done a 5km, so strangely nervous. Happy running to you all and happy healing to those on the IC.
Reading your post RfC and wondering how much I've had to drink this week...quite a lot Anyway, did my three runs, one 7k on Sunday another 7k on Wednesday and a 5k on Friday. Missed my longer Sunday run because I was out on Friday night and at a party on Saturday and to be honest just didn't have the energy. Did go for a nice walk with my husband and son's dog though. Am planning on heading out before lunch time today - if I can get on with my work that is. Sun is shining so that's a motivator. Have a great week everyone and my thoughts are with those of you on the IC, hope you all get off there very soon x
It was a weird weird week - so many plans blown out of the water by a couple of massive (happy) surprises. So I had some walks (think I saw a hen harrier and we should all know how rare *they* are) and did some yoga and that was it. Despite spending most days wearing my running underpinnings.
It does eventually work as I went for a run this afternoon.
I started doing this because I find getting dressed exhausting (long story) and it is pretty standard for me to go back to bed for a bit afterwards... so the idea of getting *changed* to get to running seemed a non-starter. I think now I might manage it sometimes but haven't dared try. And anyway, I get a bit of a kick out of secretly being a runner underneath, stripping off my tunic top and swapping knee boots for trail shoes.
I made all three runs, but the week wasn't good, somehow. I ran about 5k each time, yesterday I started the run after a long, sloow walk in the park with my kids and I somehow never got warmed up. My legs were heavy, I felt a twinge in my hamstring, my hip is hurting today, blah blah.
This week I'm aiming for three runs, 5k each, but I think I'll back off a bit and take more frequent walk breaks. I've been running at least a mile between breaks because the weather is cool and I've been feeling strong.
Now I think I'll set a goal of no more than 9 minutes run before I break. I also think I might try to sneak in a cross train of some sort on a fourth day or some yoga.
I got 3 runs done, a 5K, 6K and 7K plus a gym session with weights and rowing. I've had a few aches and pains (due to running on hard surfaces and sleeping in a different bed) so have cut down on my mileage.
Haven't run since Friday as we've got family staying and I'm DYING to get out! Roll on tomorrow when they go!
Only 2 runs last week, a Parkrun and a 6k (the beginning salvo in my campaign to get to 10k) Both good runs and both really enjoyable. Was planning on running this evening, but a day walking round London with daughter no2 has knocked that idea on the head! Ah well, there's always tomorrow
Only 2 runs last week a 5k and a 10k too busy for a third because of an essay I had to write (Its been years since I did an essay and never done a scientific one before) I am on track for 3 runs this week and really happy I have completed my aim which was 10k I can run it comfortably now ! Happy running everyone
Well my quest was to achieve 5K/3.1 miles. I have done over 5K a few times so I am pretty pleased with that though it has always been along the canal which is pretty flat.
Though my confidence has taken a hammering tonight, feel unsettled as I was unable to complete run this evening with running group, (only 2 miler) it was in the local park and a bit hilly. again a different route to last time (hill straight away) I had to walk a little and gremlins kicked in big time, after about 1 mile I decided to call it a day. On reflection I should have walk up slope/hill then when in my stride attempt it the second time around.
We are all still new runners and its all a learning curve isnt it ? We learn what works and what doesnt as we go along - I know I do ! Its all experience and knowing when to tell those gremlins to hike and when to slow down . All perfectly normal I would say xxx
I had a good week last week. I went to Zumba on Wednesday, did a 5k at Running Club on Thursday and then took part in a Cross Country 3k Relay on Saturday which I thought was very tough, but managed to complete - Yay !
Planning on doing the same again this week, apart from the Cross Country , will do parkrun instead .
Thanks for doing this RFC, have a great week fellow questers and lots of soothing and healing vibes to all those on the IC, another day closer to recovery xxx
In the end I managed 2 runs last week as we were away having some late sun in Barcelona. I did go out for one run which I really enjoyed. Plan had been to do it again, but in the end we walked so far every day (Garmin says 10k or so per day) and my feet were sore so I didn't. However Sunday I took advantage of the time change to get up early and run before the family got up - so am pretty chuffed about that.
Complicated week for running again this week; Will probably manage Tuesday and Thursday - but Friday I'm helping take our church youth group to a 3-day youth event, so suspect running opportunities will be limited (may chuck my shoes in anyway just in case.)
Had a good mid week run and have been in London for the weekend as I was going to both rugby world cup semi finals. Meant I missed seeing the Great South Run in my home town, but I got to do a run in St James' Park this morning before coming home. Still struggling a bit with the remnants of the pesky chest infection so have been restricting myself to 20 minute runs until I feel I am completely through it.
Nothing last week I'm really struggling with a lack of motivation - coupled with a worry about my back again. I went to the chiropractor who cleared me for swimming ('but proper swimming, not poky-head old lady breaststroke' - which is of course what I do) so I shall try that this week, providing I can find a gap in the half-term pool schedule. But I *must* get out for a run. In fact, tell you what - I'll put my kit on and go now!
Happy running, everyone, and a swift recovery to those on the IC.
Nearly missed this again. Week mostly went to plan. Due to work issues I could not get out on Tuesday until it was dark, but I quite enjoyed that (6k). Another 6.4k on Friday on a new route and then my long run on Sunday - 18k, longest ever. Interesting to think that this is how far most half marathon plans take you....I am glad I have four months to get used to the distance (would like to get beyond 20k at least once before the event), so it will be less of a struggle and more of a nice time out in February. Good week though
