Running and hormones

This is of interest for women, but no harm in men knowing about it!

I had been wondering about how hormones affected running - and found a very clear explanation here, active.com/running/articles...

Running consistently every second day has REALLY shown me the affect my cycle has on my physical abilities. For me I am hugely affected by it and find it fascinating.

Another thing it affects is my ability to lift heavy things. I used to row and we'd have to carry the 4-person sculls down to the water. One day I simply couldn't lift the boat — the coach took me aside and asked if I had my period. I did. She said one could lose up to 50% of baseline strength temporarily. I was blown away but have seen the pattern so many times since!

Great article.
