Welcome to end of of the Bonkers for a Bank Holiday Quest

Hello and welcome to the end of our little Quest.

Please feel free to post how the quest has gone for you, and if you would like to put your furthest distance I will mark it on the virtual run on Tuesday.

The new quest is a little indulgent. I hope you don't mind. It's going to be called

The Tri-ing to succeed Quest . As I will be undertaking. My baby triathlon on the 31 august and I really need all the psychological help I can get. The new quest will run until the 14 September.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.

Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

My longest run is 5km Park run

I have been laid up the last few days, a fluey sort of thing. I have put it down to not sleeping too well with the humidity and training hard, so giving my body the rest it needs. I have taken the rest of the week off training. It's a hard thing to do but I have taken advisce from @uktrichat on twitter and they informed me that it won't make any difference.

If any one is interested I have been keeping a little blog over the last few months.

Hi Realfoodeclub, count me in - I would like to develop my running endurance and speed so will train for10k distance ( and start swimming weekly - just needed to throw that in . If I write things down it really helps my commitment)! One of my weekly runs will be our local 5k Parkrun -until now I've only talked about it. So thanks to your tri-ing quest I will no write up a schedule, book my first 10k and head off for a half hour swim to complete Dozzer19's challenge ending next week. Happy days!

Hope you're training goes :)

Hi my longest run/jog was 6.2 km :)

I am so pleased, before I started this programme the only thing about me that ran was my nose! And now I have ran/jogged 6 km twice :) happy to be included in your virtual run :)

Another 2 run week, as we travel tonight to my brother in law's for a holiday. He's in the country near Alnwick. I'm taking my running gear and might get out Sunday, but will count it as the start of the next quest if I do.

My longest run was Wednesday's surprise 6km.

Not sure how much internet access I'll have during my hol so happy running for the next couple of weeks !

My longest run was 10.24K last Saturday. Struggled to get back to regular 8ks which was my target but I seem to be improving again recently. :-)

Had a quick look at your blog rfc and will pop back again for a proper read later, all my best wishes with your triathlon, it's inspiring to see the progress you have made.

This quest was a resounding success for me as my main aim was to get back up to 10k and run the Great North 10k, result! So 10k for our virtual quest from me.

Not in good fettle at the moment as my running group circuit training proved too much for my poor skinny little arms (planks, press ups, rearward facing press ups :-O ), light jog on Wednesday was like the tin man. :-(

Fitfor60 profile image

Oh no circuit sounds really hard Hope my running group never do that .i can do planks at Pilates but just can't do a press up I talk to my arms but I just hover there and nothing and I mean nothing happens And what on earth is a rearward facing press up? The mind boggles notbad

notbadGraduate in reply toFitfor60

Just Googled it, I got it wrong they're actually called reverse push ups :-D I should really do more planks like you, supposed to be very good for core strength.

Fitfor60 profile image
Fitfor60Graduate in reply tonotbad

Goodness not bad just had look in google and the reverse push ups look really hard! When I said I can do planks I only meant a couple for a very short time ! And when teacher says lift one leg of floor I just laugh inside cos no way is that going to happen - so obviously my core needs lots and lots more work

Just had a look at you blog,Rfc...I'm your latest follower :)

Sorry to hear you are poorly too...yes ,it's really doing the rounds ...aided and abetted by the warm ,humid weather no doubt.

I've taken this week off too...just not feeling up to it as the lurgy has really hung around and been knocking me for six in all it's various stages . Now I'm wishing I hadn't taken time off to rest my hip....never thought I'd be having to take another break straight afterwards due to illness :(

Anyway...when I DID run...and it seems like yonks ago...my longest run was 5.7 K.

Not wishing to use the "F" word, but this quest for me seems to have been one big epic fail,so I'm hoping I can put my heart and soul into the next one.

Hope you feel better soon Rfc and can continue with your tri-training .

Sorry you not feeling too great RFC Hope you better soon Had a dip into your blog and interesting how your feelings and goals changed over time Will go back and have proper look later as I love reading about real peoples running journeys.

This quest I had meant to increase distance and enter 10 k race but as you know it wasn't happening for me and I kept making excuses so decided to take pressure off and just go out and enjoy my runs with no pressure and forget about the 10 k. Been really enjoying just running and had decided I would just stick with 5 Ks. Then suddenly on wed I had the urge and have now entered a 10 k in 5 weeks time! So excited . I would never have done this without your quests and advise so thank thank you RFC

My longest run was 6.5 k . Happy running everyone

Hi RFC. It's all been a bit quiet for me this quest, but I did manage to sneak in a 13.2km as my longest - encouraged by the prospect of a 15k race in October! I will post on the relevant post, but count me in for the next quest too, it should cover a few races planned. Good luck with the baby tri training :)

Hi RFC, hope you're feeling a bit better now. I've been on the injury couch for almost all of this quest, but did manage a sedate 5k in the first week, before the infamous run that finished my knee off. Would like to think I'll be running again before the end of the next quest but don't know yet, could end up manning the tea urn yet again!

lizziebeth57 profile image
lizziebeth57Graduate in reply toAncientMum

Injury couch is a hard place to be, I found it an interesting lesson in becoming more patient (which is definitely not a strength of mine). Hope you're knee is improving and that you do get back running soon.

I was thinking I only had teensy runs this Quest - I forgot all about my 10K!

lizziebeth57 profile image

Hi all! Had a reasonable week this week. Done 3 runs, all pretty slowly and in fact did my slowest ever run on Friday. 5k in 38 minutes - even slower than when I was walking and running - however it felt so good not to push myself hard. My breathing was fine, my legs were fine and I felt I could have gone farther. I didn't because I am being careful with my thighs (IT Band syndrome) as they were achey and weird after Parkrun last weekend but after 90 minute yoga session yesterday they feel fine today.

RfC, I hope you feel better soon and thanks once again for organising these quests. I really appreciate it.

Hi RFC

I only ran 3k's last week but that planned for my 5 k race at the end of August. This week's runs will be all 5k's. Cross training too by walking and doing exercise DVD's at home, plus extreme gardening. Got the cut the hedges today. Boo

I hope you soon feel better RFC. Enjoy your rest!
